Thumbs down Well

Not really submitting this tutorial for this site, since I assume most people who frequent here know the basics of photoshop. ^^ I made this tutorial for another message board I moderate, since there were a few people asking "how the heck do i work in photoshop?"

It's my first tutorial so any tips, or contructive critisim is more then welcome!

Thanks guys!

It became harder to read the further I went down. the dark blue backgound does well. but the pale green background with white leters is kinda hard on my eyes. the drop shadow you added increases the blur factor against the green also (in my opnion)

It looks good, I can tell you put a lot of work into it but I would say try it without the drop shadow effect, make the bg the dark blue all the way through instead of using a gradient and you should be set.

What never ceases to amaze me is the number of people who acquire Photoshop and never think to consult the built-in Help, which pretty much answers that question.

Anyhow: this is a good-looking tutorial (although it would definitely benefit from losing the text drop-shadow as others have commented). There are one or two typos - you might want to run the text through Photoshop's spell-checker if you haven't rasterized the type.

As to the content, there seems to be a couple of occasions where you go off-track a bit. Rather than skimming over Layer Styles and Adjustment Layers in passing, it might have been better not to have mentioned them at all, since you don't actually use them in this tutorial. They are both pretty complicated areas, so you could maybe write some follow-up tutorials to specifically demonstrate their use.

Sorry if you think I'm being hyper-critical, but I do believe that there is an art to writing a good tutorial. I usually point people to the following article, which is probably the best advice I've ever read on this subject:
Writing an Effective Tutorial That Gets Accepted to Pixel2life and Other Tutorial Portals Tutorials, Articles and Ramblings by Dan Richard

I appreciate any constructive critism I'll make sure to read that article, for sure. This was my first tutorial, and I found myself a little unsure of what to go over lol. Because there is so much to photoshop. Thank you for the advice^^

Yes, I think one of the first principles of writing a tutorial (for anything - not just Photoshop) is to work out beforehand what you aim to achieve and then try to focus on that. As you say, there is so much to Photoshop and you can go into such amazing depth and detail on the workings of virtually any of its features that it's easy to get lost or side-tracked.
Still, I think you made a good start and deciding to tackle the very basic areas that most tutorial-writers would pass over is a good idea - looking forward to seeing some more of your work.
