This is a really great tut, just one question, in Step 5a you said to hold the Right Mouse Button and pull out stray hairs, but for me the right mouse button opens up my brushes window, the window where you change shape, size, and softness, is this just a typo or do I have PS set up wrong?

Whooops! That was a typo! Thanks for spotting it - I've corrected the mistake now...

Thank you for the great tutorial. I love to learn new PS tricks! I am new to PS, used PSP X for a while, and cannot believe how much STUFF PS can do!
Perhaps this is a dumb question but: How did you remove the background from the few spots where it shows through the curls on the left about 2/3 down? Lasso? Magic Wand? TIA for your help!

I think I still used the pen tool for those. The pen tool really gives you a superior edge-quality. When you delete with the lasso tool you (or at least I) get jagged edges, even with AA on. After deleting the spots I just used the smudge tool again to sort of blend the harsh edges to the background.

Question

I have a little problem understanding the tutorial.

At step 3, all is ok, so I finish it with an active selection and in my layers palette, the original image, its duplication and a path layer.
This is where I dont really understand what I've to do in the 4th step : deleting the active selection make me deleting the path. So i dont really understand where I have to delete ...the duplicate image?

Can anyone explain to me?

Thanks.

Goodone but...

Nice tutorial. Just a few minor things. The hairline is disrupted giving a fake im pression just at the apex with hair going right and left. It looks good if you dont overdo it or just add some minor touches.

Hi. I have a question about the pen tool. Sometimes when i use it, it makes a fill where it is cutting. The fill is the same colour as whatever is selected as my foreground colour. Why is it doing this?
Thanx

great tutorial, a good combination of masking and the smudge tool can get you a long way in a short time.

Graphics Tablet

I'm sure this kind of work would be much easier with the aid of a graphics tablet.
