I love this tutorial, simple in itself, but the results are great and as a technique is is hugely applicable across a wide variety of things rather than making just a 'copy me' tutorial.

Unhappy Now im Mad
ok i have looked over numerous sites trying to get this blasted effect to work

i can never get the selection right it never looks how it does on the tut like so

i have seen many in this kinda of style where you select a section etc and do the gradient thing

BUT

the darned gradient tool always likes to be an arse! i'll choose the ''forground to transparent'' option while it on linear mode yet when i do the gradient thing it always black it out like so

i dont know how to host image on the so ill put the URLS

and im now starting to get incredibly cheesed off

on one tutorial i ALMOST got it but i had to add a ''clipping layer mask'' or something where you press ctrl+g BUT NOOOOO that comand doesnt work on stupid PS CS2 just PS it seems which i dont have >_<

please please please someone help

Nice job!
I just started trying to use this and I am somewhat a novice at photoshop. Maybe someone can help. I can get create the shine but as it scrolls over my text, you see the text lines scrolling as well - kind of annoying. Could it be font selection? Any help would be appreciated.

gr8 tut except im usin cs3 and i found out that it has animation already on so i dint have to open new programme but when i did the animation i couldt find the save as otimised option so i saved for a website and this is what i got but now the anims too slow
