ok - I thought that GIFs were smaller because they use fewer colors...
My other page (V4) was done in JPG's at 80% quality - and it was very large...

So, I should resize the slices and keep the animation...

(Actually - i didn't like the static in the first place

In some cases, .gifs can be smaller, because of the possibility that there can be fewer colors. But because of all the gradients and textures in your image, a .jpg would be a better choice. BTW, 80% quality is VERY high for a .jpg on the web. 51-60% should suffice.

In general:

- a .gif should be used for large areas of flat color, with few colors and gradients. These could be logos or your scanline background image.

-.jpgs should be used for photos, images with texture, lots of colors, gradients, etc...

It depends on the image. You just cant save at 60% quality if youre using pixel text in your image. That would look horrible. Then again if you have lots of smooth lines and stuff the quality can sometimes manage even 50%

True, I'll agree with that statement. I was speaking about his specific case on his website, though. Especially with all those gradients in his images on the site. Not too much detail there.

Well, If you're on dial-up, it should only take about 10 seconds to load the welcome page - once that is loaded, everything is speedy!
