Filling up holes...

Well I have this idea for a big space station orbiting above a huge astroid....

it should look cylindrical with some corners....but it's a bit open, so I was asking myself if you lot maybe know something to add. I will make an drawing of it's looks and post it up here.

In the mean time it has an antenna(a big one), a dock....and well there it stops really...

PS:the station has it's own gravity source generaterd trough a big G-force generator in the middel of it...

Alright, this is the "blocked out" version of it. No detail just the big sections....
maybe now you can help me out.

I'm thinking of putting some gas tank alike things on the back of it(the blocky side) and maybe putting steel frames over the entire length of the cylinder...

well having a docking bay would make sense, some portal windows as well. Initially I was thinking some boosters, but then again it would probably be transported into orbit by another ship or built in orbit.

Perhaps some solar panels might be useful as well.

I like stiney's idea.
also mebbe a communications dish or some sort of antennaie array.
allthough you did mention that it has a huge antenna allready and i just noticed that.

maybe some sort of outrigger(s) with a beacon on it?

anything to break up the cylindrical shape a bit. right now I realize its still in the early stages and i hope you wont hate me for saying this, but it looks a bit too much like a syringe from space

thats my 2 cents. anyway.

anytime someone mentions a space station orbiting a planet or moon or something, I keep thinking of an Old American Gas Service Station from the 50's that is basically just floating out there.(of course it would have the stylistic changes of having to be in space) but that's basically what I'm thinking of.

Anyways, Seeing more of your "style" or concept art would really help. If you don't have any concept art, I probably suggest you draw it out on paper... just small thumbnail pictures... and if you find something you like, take it into photoshop and color it for further testing. I know this step keeps you away from maya, but it will also save you hours of heartache and headache as well. Drawing a small 3" x 5" sketch is faster than doing it all in 3d then go, umm, no that's not going to work.

Even if you aren't an amazing concept artist. I would suggest sketching in blocks and shapes, Other people might not know what you are drawing, but I'm sure your brain will convert all the scribbles into the actual shapes and the look you want. (i'm a horrible traditional artist, yet i still sketch out ideas, even if it's "chicken scratch" and people are like, what's that!) it gives me direction of where I would like to take the model. You could even use photo's and just manipulating them enough to get the look you want, then go from there.

My problem is that my concept sketches are all over, well everything. They are in my school writing blocks, and on papers that aren't mine really. Papers that are somewhere around.... well al that kind of stuff

but I will try to get some together and post them up here!

well here are some pics to show the progress,

I've been trying to break the cylindrical shape with those construction bars.
Let me know what you think of it.

PS: the antenna is the big thing shown in the second image...

looking better, but the whole thing is a bit too much like a crayon with the cone shaped from. I like the cylindrical shape, but not crazy about the nose.

If you want it to take up more um... well space, then try adding huge sun-energy collecting thingies (how the heck do you call them in english?).

I'm currently working on the antenna thing, because it looks a bit "like a crayon with the cone shaped from" as stiney said

So I've been thinking about replacing the antenna thingy by a dish, I will have the sketches I made up here in a few days(2 or so)...

satelite dish

Here's an update about the project, its just an concept sketch. So this is how the antenna should look like. It's replacing the pointy thing at the end of the station.

Oh and I'm putting an use biosphere at the other end, it should break with the cylinder and I think it should look awesome!

satelites

Well and here is another update, just an sketch(again) as I'm still not finished with the dish thingy. These three things besides eachother, are signs floting in space. The other two are the idea about the biosphere thingy....but that's unfinished sketching so
