hey unleash, I still don't quite get what you mean, or are doing, Could you please post up some screenshots, maybe 1 "normal", 1 "during" rotation and 1 "after rotation" so i can get an idea of what is happening? Personally I would use bones or constraints to create an animation rig for the loading dock arm.

Yes, abolutely. what you described is called "control rigs" they can get pretty complex but you will only need a small section of a full control rig, the tool you want to use is called "set driven key"
You can find this in the ANIMATION section of maya, under the menu ANIMATE>SET DRIVEN KEY>SET
once you go there, You will get a pop up window, "set driven key"
the DRIVER will be your "slider" and the DRIVEN will be in this case, the hangar door.
you give the driver a range of say 1-10, 1 being closed, 10 being open...
But I believe you will need to "add attributes" to your Driver/Slider first, then you can proceed with the "set driven key" procedure.

The problem with the rotation has been solved, it was not in an animation or such, just when I was positioning everything the rotation thing messed up. But now it works again, I think that is because of the global warming....
Thanks for the tutorials, I will definitely have a look at those!! If I understand those it should get much easier animating.
And off course an update of the pics. I assembled everything I got for the space station so far, and I put some SOS pods in there as well, well more the docks for the SOS pod, get it? And I added the hangar bays as well!!
so now it's time for maintenance paths and such and adding an biodome thing to the rear....

Update...another one:P
So is has been a while since the last update. This is mainly because of my school and different things that had to be done. The other thing was that I had no reall idea's about the looks of the engines...
Now I do have an idea, and therefore and update
This are the engines that will come on the rear of the station. Than I only need to add the side compartments and some additions to the model, like air ducts, turrets or docking spaces...Then I need to make textures for it all, and finally get it in an environment.
I will soon add the complete image, the one where the engines are attached to the station. And maybe with the compartments.

I was thinking of adding compartments to the side of the station. Like a wing of a building....well tell me what you think of that. In the meantime, here is the overall look....

Okay, this is the space ship with the blocked out compartments. They will become module like things, sience, militairy, communication and so on. It will take me a while to get the concepts into 3D as I have other stuff to do the coming few days...like working
Anyway, I added some vieuws of the almost complete station. As I said before, modeling is almost done so I will have a start with texturing....and then animating and dynamics. So maybe I will add some explosions as well
Hope you like the progress....And all ideas are more than welcome right now....

Alright second module,
tell me what you guys think of it  Im a bit stuck with the other 2 designs....I want to make one repair hangar thing, that one might be finished tonight. And I wanted to make a more military thing, for defense purposes and suchs.
Anyone with an idea for a module please reply!!

hey unleash, are these module all going to fit together? can we see a test render of how it will all go together?
anyways have you thought of a medical module? or a cafe/restaurant/mess hall type module?
It's all looking good, keep it up! can't wait to see it finished.

Yeah I could put a starbucks/ Mcdonald/.... kind a thing in a module. The modules are really big so making one mess hall thing is a bit, well then you get a huge mess hall  I will see how I can fit the mess thing into the right module(in the image) as that should be the living/ trading module....
Anyway, I finished the science module, the cylinders are the laboratories....the rest is pretty self explaining, right?
