An update, I'm almost finished modelling the dish, and I finished modelling one space sign as well. Well tell me what you think, C&C is more than welcome

I will post an image of the dish attached to the station this evening, or something(it's now 14pm here)

Update #3

Well I've been busy doing al sorts of things,
so therefore this thread is pretty far gone.

Anyway, here is the update. This is the docking mechanisme in progress, the idea is to make a crane that picks the shuttles out of the "sky" and presses them to the hull of the space station at special docking ports....get it?

the is the grabler, and a part of the arm....

Update #3.2

Well this is more an update to the update..

anyhow, I've finished working on the Crane, so now I only need to add the docking and shielding part. Those two things will also both be updates if you like it or not.

So here are the pics, the first is small(600X400 or something alike) and the second is rendered for FullHD.

C&C are really welcome, as I'm not completely happy wit the lower part of the crane.

Alrigth this is an stand alone update

I've finished working on the docking part of the station, I haven't had the time to stick it to the space station so it's stand-alone on the moment....

Anyways some help is needed, as there is an flaw in the program (agentxi?) when I try to rotate the crane, it rotates in an egg shape form. And through that the width, height and depth is also adjusted when I try to only rotate it...Do any of you lot know how such a thing is possible? as it's pretty damn irritating!

where are you at, I really need an opinion at this moment about the docking part, as I'm not completely satisfied with the result! So I hoped you could like tell me what could be improved/ added/ changed in any way!

what about sliding/retractable doors over the bays? Its not like they are needed areodynamically (in space after all) but possibly to protect work crews from solar cooking? and dont forget those pesky stray meterors.
perhaps an access ladder here and there.

Hey Unleash, Can you tell me a bit more about the setup?

Do you have bones or constraints as an animation rig for the rotating? If not then I'm assuming you are just rotating the geometry, and when you move vertices (cv's) around it will usually alter the "pivot center" you can change this by hitting either "insert" on the keyboard, or using the hotkey "d" . To permanently change the center pivot what you need to do is go to the "transform tool" and then, hold down "d" you'll see that the transform icon slightly changes, now you can move that pivot point to where you want it manually. when you let go of "d" that's the objects new pivot center.


Personally I would setup bones and rig the grappling arm to how you want it.
I will post a tutorial on how to rig something 'mechanical'

The acces ladders is an good idea, im working on it right now. Then I wanted to add like a platform thingy to walk on, well you see! The doors are a bit difficult as I don't know where to put them

Agentxi,
I'm indeed moving the geometry, the pivot is centered using modifie>center pivot. I never had problems with this kind of thing, so I'm really stunned now as it's pretty irritating! I't look as if the thing moves in an eclipse so 180 is no problem but 90 is going completely wrong...

Alright well I've added hangar doors, hope you like them The system that allows them to open and close was pretty brain damaging. But it works now!

Anyway, I'm busy geting some working platforms in there and put it onto the main space station.

An question,
I saw an movie which performed as an showcase. The animator used square boxes with one point in them as sliders. When the points where moved something in the face moved to, like the eyes. Slider up : eyes open, slider down eyes closed. is suchs a thing possible in maya? and if so, how?
