It's a good piece. I would work on it a little longer though. It seems a little....too flat. I've played the game and understand that it's meant to be flat, but when I look at it I cant help but see a 2D gunblade that seems extruded a little.

i had made the edges too thick and thats why it turned out flat in the end. if u look at it from a different perspective, u'll see it 3d like in the game. its just the angle that i've rendered

Hmm, i commented on the one in the gallery....

But i will post it here too,
Nice work but(yes here it comes)
you should take a look at bumo maps, they can make renders more realistic because trough them you can show scratches and rust on your model even better.
You should also take a look at the "imperfection" thing, try to make your models a bit imperfect with scratches, rust and or dirt!!
And take a look at reflections!! metal does reflect.....

Well that was it, but I do like to know what prog you use for it(I use Maya)

bump maps are great for detail but I would stick with Normal maps, because normal maps use the 3 color channels to detemine hieght info while bump maps only use 1 channel, alpha channel to determine hieght, you could say that normal maps are a step ahead of bump maps.

i am not too good with texturing and i used too much lighthing and thats why it turned out this way. the program i used was max 8. if anyone can make a nice metallic texture, that would be much appreciated.

hey limitless,

would you be able to give us a few more renders from different angles?

From just looking at this current render that it looks like you could use a little more detail in the handle and more variation in thicknesses throughout the whole thing as the others have mentioned. but it is a very good start that's for sure, just keep tweeking, maybe check out more reference images about how thick certain parts of the gunblade should be, etc...

references are always a huge help, or they are for me anyways...

Unleash: sorry but the link you supplied doesn't seem to work :s the one concerning leigh van der byl's texturing site. (and yes it twas me that sent you the link )

yea i can provide more angles. the next render that i'll upload however will be of the second gunblade from FFVIII used by Seifer. the two gunblades will intertwine in the middle forming an X. iam still working that out however so its just gonna have to wait. as for the textures. i added a bump map that shows the metallic side of the blade but not very well. i will have those images uploaded tomorrow. thanks for the site unleashed and thanks for the support from everyone else.

@unleashed, thanks for the site.

iam finishing up the texturing process but iam just tryin to perfect as much as i can. I will uploaded multiple renders this time with different angles as requested from different users. if it takes a while, its because iam a bit of a perfectionist and iam busy with college but I will upload ASAP.

I have posted the second gunblade that i have been working on. This one is called "Hyperion" from FFVIII. C&C please. as u can see, the texturing is a little better than the previous image. the collaboration of the two gunblades together will be uploaded as soon as i fix the lighting on them and make it look right.

Really nice work, I've seen some pictures of it on the net and this oone resembles it closely!! I like the reflection and the triple holes

But, there are some things that need some touch up i think....
First the texture on the blade....it looks like there is alot of dirt on it now but it's grey....So i would make just a few scratches in the bump map and show the min your texture too, but not this big...
Second the relfection is great but if you're able too blur it, blur it!!
And third, the holes in the blad near the beginning are they cut out or texture?? Because at the time they look texture too me......

That was it i geuss
