Again with a New Site

I ran into some pretty major problems with the engine on my last site, so I decided to try and take on a project a little less overwhelming (lots of school work). So I redesigned the layout, and created a new system. It is still a bit buggy on the transitions of div elements, but those should be cleared up soon. There are also still a lot of validation errors as well as broweser compatability problems.

All comments are especially appreciated, and if you find a bug in any browser (other than IE6, going to get other browsers first) please post them.

Anyway thanks, here is the new site:

Absolutely amazing. I wish I had this kind of talent. :/ I just don't have the patience to learn though. At first I thought it was a Flash interface, but I kept getting the normal context menu to come up. That's all plain notepad viewable code. Only a couple of things that bug me. First is the page size. It's set up to fit on a 1280x1024 res (which I run), but with the banner at the top, you have to view it full screen to have it all show. Not really a bad thing, just a design difference. I generally tend to make my pages narrow enough to fit on 800x600, though I honestly don't know anyone that runs lower than 1024x768. The other is that the background changes to basically two different green bases and one red base, while the elements on top (the menu bar and content windows) don't change colors accordingly. It would be cool to have the menu bg and content background changed to match it, apple and all.

Other than those things, which are just personal prefrences and not actual problems, everything looks great in Firefox 1.5.0.1.

Sadly, I forgot that since I'm now on Spring Break for the week that my server woudl be off at school. I should have it back up next Monday, until then I'll be tweaking and trying to make it better locally.

I definately plan on moving the banner in someway so that it is not as obtrusive. Somehow find a faw to integrate it into the site. Also, multiple colors might be pretty cool, I never really thought about having multiple UI color schemes. The backgrounds can be chosen though with the buttons on the top left of the menu.

For programmer it is a mixture of PHP, MySQL, AJAX, and standard Javascript. It essentially is using the script.aulicious transtion effect and draggable modifiers for the objects. PHP is used to dynamically grab the current database contents and usign the AJAX XMLHTTPRequest funcitons it can update the page with MySQL data without ever refreshing the page.

XMLHTTPRequest is definately an amazingly awesome form of technology and I greatly suggest looking into it. It is amazing powerful.

As for the program I use for coding, I almost strictly use EditPlus 2. It is a lightweight cheap editor than you can make custom syntax files for, and essentially expand syntax highlighting to any type of file you want.
