TheCubed.com version 6 is here!

Wow! It's been a long time since I've actually logged in here at Biorust, I almost used up my 5 login tries trying to remember my password!

Well, I have a challenge for the great minds here in this forum!
I need an opinion of my new version of my site.
Some goals in mind for this new version were:
-Forum integration
-Clean lines
-Scanlines - and lots of them
-Shadows (the more the merrier - and I know that i mispelled that)
-No more Java newsticker (crashed my browser 1/5 page loads)
-minimum 800x600 resolution
-Small page size for dial-up users (and my home DSL line)

So, I came up with this design
http://thecubed.no-ip.com/v6/
(you can still view the old version at http://thecubed.no-ip.com )

But, I personally don't like the design that I used, I think that it should be more integrated with the forum and more like the way the Biorust forum is set up (floating in an island of blue dots - or scanlines in my case).

If anyone has a suggestion, I would be open to anything you have to say.

---

Ok, another question for those who are good at the legal side of things,
I am currently working on a software package that will help TheCubed get some meaning . It's called TheCubed ! No, really - it's the integration of three best WWW utilities!
BRS WebWeaver for the WWW server software, PHP/MySQL for the database, and PhpBB for the messageboard software.

The only problem is getting permission to integrate the three... I don't know how that'll work. Does anyone know the best way to ask them?

---
One more question, is there anything that you would like to see in the articles section of TheCubed? Let me know if you happen to think of someting.

Thank you very much for considering my post, and I look forward to your comments.

Hmmm, as far as I know, open source software offered under the GPL is freely editable. All you need to do is give your source code to anyone else who asks (henceforth retaining the point of 'open source').

PS. I can't seem to view your website at the moment. I may be having connection issues - I'll try again later...

ok, mabye my dynamic ip client didn't update yet. try again whenever you have some time
Thanks for the advice on the software package. I don't think that BRS WebWeaver is GPL (mabye, but webweaver is still free - so i don't know...)

OSS (Open Source) is usually GPL (General Public License), you will have to read the license to see what you can do about that, if all of the projects are open source, then you should have no problem packaging them together, several Linux Distro's do this.

The site design has several problems, a lot of scanlines that are not used tastefully = nonono!

The design is compact, the use of iframes is not wise for phpBB at all. It is better to provide text links instead of image links.

the thing is, WebWeaver isn't opensource, and I just got a copy of the license, and it says I need to ask the author.

Yeah... I think text links might be better, too - but I really need to come up with a better design alltogether...

What i really need to do is write a custom PHPBB skin to interface seamlessly with my website instead of using an iframe...

Thanks much for the comments!
oh, by the way, does everything work ok on a mac?

Hmm... If in doubt, asking the author is always a good idea. Providing that you intend to only use the code for personal use, will not redistribute it, and do not plan to make any money, 99.5% of coders won't mind you doing anything you like with their code.

Well, the thing is, I do plan to redistribute it, but I got it all settled... I emailed the author- so i'm just waiting for a response.

Man1c M0g, did you ever get your computer to see my website?
I value your opinion on my website, also

Well, it kinda loads... but it looks very disjointed. Have you tested it in Opera yet?
