Painting Practice

Well the thread title pretty much says it all. I havent done much digital painting for a while and with the arrival of my new Intuos 3 (score!) I thought I'd brush up my skills. The image was hand painted in photoshop and I've still got a fair bit of detail to add. I need to work on the skin texture, add a few blemishes and also add more detail to the hair as it is pretty rough at the moment. So what do you think!

Very nice.. digital painting was never my thing, even though I can sketch quite well, colors and I are bitter enemies, have been since the time I painted a wall, and accidently painted the wall outlet and got zapped... damned light blue paint!

Not bad! I think that the horrid green background utterly destroys the image though. I know its only a placeholder, but solid colours with painting styles really look bad! :/

Ay Mog, I couldn't agree more once the face is done that background is out of there! To be honest with you Order I'm not a great fan of colour either (or at least working with it) but what I find helps a lot is first laying the tones down with greys and then slaping on some colour with an airbrush with 'colour' selected. Once I started painting in this way my work really improved. I'm also a big fan of the smudge tool I find it so useful for blending colours together and just generaly smoothing out the image. I'll post an update as sone as get another chance to do some work on this, I've been pretty bogged down with school recently.
