Cool Photograph Assignment Contest

I would like to introduce the newest addition to the Biorust community
Beginning September 1st, we will be presenting an assignment photo contest.
This meaning, we will assign a project or theme, for you to go out and photograph.
There will be a limit of 4 submissions per user per month, reason being we hope to have a huge participation in this event.
Please post your assignment photos in the Biorust Specific Artworks --Competitions--Photography Monthly Competition category!

We hope this will inspire you, and give us all a reason to look at this wonderful world a little different each month.

“Thru the eye of the camera, we see such beauty.
So get out there and find it! It is our duty.”

Highest rated 4 photos will be looked at by myself and a helper (any volunteers out there??).. from there one photo will be chosen as the assignment photo of the month.

Starting September 1st ending September 30

Our Category for the month of September, will be REFLECTIONS

Please enter your camera model, and any information you have, as that will be helpful to people while they enjoy and vote on your picture.
A little story behind the shot helps people feel and see what you did when you were taking the picture!

So get the wheels turning, grab that camera, and let’s get out there and have some fun!

October 1 will begin a new assignment

They do this on one of the MSN photography boards. It's all so subjective, I never liked the winners. heh

Why didn't you like any of the winners? Just didn't think they picked the right pictures? We have yet to decide how the "winner" will be picked here.. any ideas?

Milkdrop, I can understand your concern, but I think this is actually a good idea. I think it will encourage each photographer to branch out into areas they may not oridinarily go, giving the photographer a chance to fine hone their skills even further. I think you will see an increase in the quality of work posted. I also think, however, that the submissions should be limited to one - two at the most. Submit only your best photographs. I think this would help keep the people viewing the competition interested, and prevent a deluge of similar photographs. As for picking a winner....let the viewers pick them. It gets everyone involved and encourages the photographer to do their best.

This could be a lot of fun. I look forward to giving it a try and seeing what all I learn from each of you.

I agree with Lexi - it can only benefit Biorust! If more people has her pioneering spirit (and perhaps ran similar monthly competitions for other subjects, such as 2D/3D art), then we'd really be getting somewhere on these forums!

yes i know it can help benefit peoples skills etc. I just dont like all the photography stuff that this board gets. I really like soe of it, but its all just way to repetive, it just like i come on biorust and see a miliion horse pictures, it just got so boring i would start just saying random stuff about the piccies.

*milkdrop being very honest*
every photo i see i just give it a 9 because i just dont have time to put the effort into writing a decent review unless it is truly ground breaking. Yes i do like photography but it just seems to much now. I have the same probelm, when i first came here i would submit my ass off full of image etc. I still do nearly the same work load but i now cut down much less on what i show. I think the photographers should have their do their own threads so we dont get all of this clutter and then they only put their very best pics of the month onto the gallery.

Well I never liked the winner because it seemed to me that people were voting for very banal and boring pics. There was one for 'transportation' and the winner was this guy driving by on a harley.

Not evne good enough for 'A Day in the Life..' kind of books, which is where I lop a LOT of the photography work I see in.

I guess I am more into liking different stuff than what I do.

I don't know I'm in a crabby mood don't listen to me!

people like photography because of the lighting of the scenes, thats some thing that many noobs in photography do not take into account. just read any photography book and you will read that lighting is no of the most improtant aspects.

Well, light is what makes colors, so thus it is quite important.. a small shift in light can change your ability to see a color..

Lighting is what makes the mood and effect of the shot the perspective of the shot also helps quite abit.

I agree!!! Without lighting it would not only be impossible to capture a picture with a camera, it would be just as impossible to to achieve sight! To say lighting is everything, would be an understatement! Photography is simply capturing a moment of light.....how well you are able to do this is when it becomes art.

Cindy I have been talking to a few other people here at biorust and you have created a stir of excitement with this photo assignment (despite the lack of posts here...excitement seems to be the consensus.) Kudos to you for coming up with this idea! I hope other areas (ex. 2D, 3D, etc) follow suite.

So when is the first assignment going to be? I'm REALLY looking forward to it.

Lexi

Hi! Oh THANK YOU LEXI! that makes me very happy!
The assignment starts today.. I put that in the first post here.. must have missed it! for you and everyone else that wants to "play" it is REFLECTIONS I was thinking, with fall coming up, that there should be some pretty reflections to be found everywhere.. not only in lakes, could be a drop of dew on a flower.. or anything.. the reflection on a car hood, a mirror.. anything.. hope that helps! cant wait to see the first submission. We will post till the end of the month! Highest rated photo, then narrow it down to a winner. Thanks again! Hope everyone just has fun.. that is what it is meant to be.. just a fun project.. and if we are lucky, some learning along the way.
