The New Portfolio

Even though I just completed my previous portfolio site not too long ago, it's gone now. Between a host crash and the how complicated it would be to re-code it to comply to current web-standards it just wasn't worth keeping.

So here I am with a new version. Not a whole lot of content, but I've got a few pieces there and you can see how the site will work. Currently the IDEAS section is not up yet, and won't be for a while.

But tell me what you think about it.

It is XHTML Strict and CSS2, all coded by me except for the Faux browser check (created by Snecx) which checks for browser compliance to the Web Standards.

Yet again there is a bit of a compliance error with IE, but this time it only affects the mini port viewer; causing it to malfunction a bit.

Hopefully I will have a domain for it soon, but for now it is at:

the colours hurt my eyes. change the colours! also, the "preview work" links are awfully non-visible, it took me a while to find them.

Ditch the w3c buttons and replace them with text links. Also, the way the barcode intersects the layout hurst the design overall.

It's nicely done, but I'll have to agree with Evdawg, The colors need a little help. I think it would make all the difference if you darken that light #DDF7FF color. The stress on your eyes should be much less due to the colors being darker

(Go figure).
Anyway, that's all I see that really needs to be done

Woah, the backgrounds crazy! Its quite cool, i like the blues and the top header. One thing i dont like (personally) are sites that are pushed to the top left corner of the screen. You have so much space to play with! Id put it in the middle and use CSS to make cool table backgrounds on each side! Well, thats what id do!

The navigations cool, with the whole over and underline links. Try some css menus. check out:

I love it. This design is lovely.

I love the eye but it is very unoriginal now, unless you 3d modelled it, then i give you huge cred.

I love your colour scheme but the navigation is abit hard due to the colours.

Its all been done before, especially the eye banner but it looks good.

The best work is always the most original work, thats a very good rule, everyone should learn.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I've made quite a few changes to the site based on the responses and think the site is much better than it was before.

The site has been centered, added a border, darker/less contrasting colors, brighter links, and soon a new header (working on it now).

The other thing I wan't to ask, is about the load times. For anyone that checked out the site, could you post about how quickly the site loaded, thanks again.

I second that.

I don't like the colors on the site, but that's just personal preference on my part.

I am getting this wierd "flashing" of the background when I scroll in FireFox that kind of hurts my eyes. I think it's the texture you have on it. You might consider making the texture larger or not having it at all to get rid of that effect.

I see what you mean about the background, and it's very annoying. I'll look into it once I get home.

Also downloaded that extension, it's great. Many useful tools.

I was using FF, I just needed to update it. Ohhh the power! Theres so many things to play with! They should code another version of it so you can see how your site will look like in a text only browser where you have to use the keyboard (tabindex), etc....
