To my mind, calling these kind of manipulations "Tilt-Shift Photography" is a bit of a misnomer. I'd call these "Fake Model Photography" or "Faux Model Photography" or something like that.

True tilt-shift photography is achieved with a tilt-shift lens and, although it can produce the effects illustrated, there's much more to it. I own a tilt-shift lens myself and use it almost exclusively for architectural photography, mainly to combat the effect of converging verticals.

Still, some very good image effects there.

i can agree with that Tamlin, the lens is mostly used to compensate for perspective then?
like say, 2 tall colums that you want to go straight up, but your camera increases the perspective effect and makes them look angled?

That's it exactly. It's explained very well (better than I could have done) in this article:

Using Tilt-Shift Lenses to Control Perspective

The main downside is that T/S lenses are hideously expensive. I bought mine second-hand on eBay and still had to pay over £700 ($1150). Brand new ones retail for over £1000 ($1650).
