D.I.Y. Cheap 3D camera

I just happened to stumble across this article and thought it was kinda neat. Its more of a gimmick than useful but still interesting none-the-less and just thought I would share.

Definately a gimmick, but interesting in that it fools your eyes into thinking its 3D as opposed to just 2 distinct images.

a friend of mine does this with digital.
has a tripod mount and one of those viewers that he bought (its a fairly new one, little plastic handheld stereoscopic viewer)
some of his shots really do have a 3-d look
others dont.

I would like to have the money for a rig that would position 6-12 cameras around my subject for creating "true" 3D look like you see in some commercials. That would be sweet.
