General Idea Of Cost

My company was looking to hire someone locally (Colorado) to take some photos of a few products for use in their retail stores. Essentially there will be about 7 items that need to be shot and they have a quote from someone that seems pretty high to me.

What would you charge for a job like this? The end result will be 7 images that are used in 10 retail stores (on seven 2 ft by 6ft banners).

What would you charge for just this use

Would the price change if we were looking to own the photos outright for any use? If so how much for that?

Not looking to hire someone (at least I don't think) but would love help getting a ballpark reasonable price.

that's really a bit tough to answer... everyone is going to have different ideas on price

here's something to consider though...

the person whom gave you the high quote might be a "skilled" photographer with top notch equipment and just as an artist must account for his or her equipment costs when pricing projects... a photographer must do the same. Considering many high-end cameras can run $1000 to $6000 plus lenses that can run just as much, not to mention other accessories, lighting rigs etc... it can get pricey.

its hard to compare prices for someone of this caliber with someone like myself who owns a $1000 total camera rig and only intermediate experience

you must decide how important those photos will be... will they be representing important items for the store for a long period of time or just briefly? If they are images that will make or break the business... I would expect to pay more and hire the best you can find and afford.

if the images are just for a brief sale or promotion... consider maybe looking for a photography student looking to add to their portfolio as they will likely give you better price.

also... region is going to make a difference in price due to cost of living. It wouldn't be fair really to compare say what I might charge from Ohio rural area vs. New York metro areas for instance. So... for fair and accurate pricing... I suggest just calling photographers in your area and getting a range of prices and consider the notes above about needing a pro or hobbyist for your particular project.
