Digitizing Photo's

I have a Nikon SLR camera with a couple lens, It takes better photo's then my Sony Cybershot does, but when I scan the photograph into my computer with a Epson Scanner, built with Negative scanner as well the pictures do not look as good as my Soney Cyber shot does. What I am asking is there a way to make the photographs that are developed from film look as good as if it was taken with a digital camera, so that I can manipulate it in Photoshop and reprint it?
Any help would be appreciated.

Simple home scanners simply don't have the build quality, algorithms, or trained operators :-) that service bureaus have.

In short, take your images to a bureau that works with professionals. Get them to do a drum scan. The quality will be unsurpassed.
