Printable Color Negatives

I recently found some old color negatives in my attic and decided to see if I could mess with them in Photoshop CS so I scanned them in this is what one of them looked like.

This is what the result was after I attempted to create a positive image.

Having never worked off a negative is it possible with Photoshop to develope at better positive image than the one I attempted.

I'd say that actually looks pretty good for a scanned negative.
Do you have an attachment for your scanner for negatives or did you just scan it normally? Either way, those are acceptable results. Further color correction can be done in Photoshop and there are tutorials all over that'll show you how.
One suggestion: you should scan at the highest resolution your scanner allows. Start with them as big as possible - you can always make them smaller without worrying too much about loss of quality, but re-sizing them larger, afterwards, will result in blurry, blocky pixels.

I have an attachment that allows me to scan negatives and transparencies. I will try to scan the next negative in at 1200. Thanks for the information

1200 is a good number. Bearing in mind that most home printers print at 300 ppi, a 1"X1.5" negative at 1200 can be resized to 4"X6" at 300 with zero quality loss.

Check out the new podcast that M0g mentioned on the front page - http://photoshop.weblogsinc.com/2006...odcast-debuts/ - to learn a little more about resolution.
