Smile Greeting from Photoshop CS3 Newbie...

Just wanted to say hello to you all
I am a beginner in the photoshop world, so my latest agenda is to learn all that I can possibly learn about Photoshop CS3.. and that.. is not an easy task

If anyone would like to give me any hints about what I should learn first, or last or anything at all ... would be greatly appreciated

I want to be, in the end, so good at it that I could start to make graphics for websites, so that I could join a work team of sorts and start our own site where we could make web sites for other who are willing to pay for it.
I know that there is a lot of these sites out there already.. but there is a lot of people who want that kind of jobs done too

If this sounds interesting to you, then send me a mail, so we can talk about it

Well, we've got some pretty good tutorials right here; start with the Basic Principles section and work your way up from there.

Hey welcome down here to biorust!

I think you should do as tamlin said, try to do some basic tutorials, thats the way to learn it. But if you want to challenge yourself, dont hesitate to take on the more advanced tuts! Those probably will help you with the technique to do what you want to do with photoshop!

Oh and ask yourself the question what do I want to do with photoshop? As it is very versatile! A few of the possibilitys: "photo touch ups", "photomanipulations", "web design".
And if you want to take on all of them, learn them one at a time It helps, believe me.

Oh and enjoy your stay!

Its great knowing how to use the tools of the trade like Photoshop but, if you really want to excel... you might also want to make sure you have your designer skills in place. Not saying you don't but... many overlook this principal and it shows in their work. So while learning Photoshop... make sure you study up on color theory, composition, and design. All you have to do is search google for many sites related to these or better yet... consider getting a design education with emphasis on web graphics and possible degree if you are serious about wanting to enter the web design field. It will make it easier for you in many instances although if you got the talent... sometimes that can speak for itself.

I totally agree!! Too many people think that if you buy the software tools, the skills will automatically follow but it's not that simple. Buying a scalpel doesn't make you a brain surgeon.

Post Thanks..

Thank you all for your reply:-D

I am planning to take some courses in web design, and I do have some skills when it comes to drawing and painting, and I seriously think that that is a very big plus when it comes to designing web sites and in photoshop..

I have dedicated 4 hours a day to photoshop learning from now and until I have reach my goal, which is to know Photoshop inside out (almost)..

If you all are interested, I could write about my progress along with some examples of my work:d (If it is possible to upload pictures on this site???)

Have a PhotoFantastic Day Everybody:-D

Sure thing. If you like, you can set up a blog here:
BioRUST Forums - Blogs
You can post examples of your work in the Showrooms & Work In Progress forum (Showrooms & Works In Progress - BioRUST Forums), or, preferably, in the Gallery (Main Index - BioRUST.com :: User Gallery)

But if you buy a scalpel and practise A LOT, than you will probably get the skills of the brain surgeon(I would start on trying on someone elses brains though )

So I guess that having the scalpel, a bit of experience in the medical field and 4 hours a day for target practise, would grant you those skills over time

Looking forward to your blog!!
