also this being my introduction post i suppose i get one question without going off topic - im wanting to create a signature for the forums but have yet to come up with anything interesting enough to try ... the nick name "treyger" came from a particular fondness of Jägermeister back when i was a drinker so i dont suppose that gives much inspiration to develop a sig around .... ideas????

Well, I have always thought that a forum signature should be no different from a real life signature - in other words it should represent you in some way. It's very easy to create the standard sort of sig that you see everywhere. You know the kind of thing: a character copied from some manga cartoon or computer game, a grunge-by-numbers background and a fancy font with a pre-made layer style applied - but what does that actually say about you? (Other than that you can copy other people's work and follow a tutorial or two.)
The sigs I use here (and I tend to change them when I get bored with them, although I'm planning to eventually create a "rotating sig" like Bub's) consist of two elements: one of my own photographs and a quotation that expresses an idea that I identify with.
So my advice would be: use your own work as far as possible, and make it relevant to your personality.
PS: I'm wondering if this thread should be moved to General Discussions now - just for neatness's sake.

Apologies for double-posting, but I just found this blog entry that demonstrates the perfect fusion of politics and graphic design (in the form of advertising) and so seems appropriate to this thread. It's a collection of ads from around the world featuring George W. Bush, and demonstrates how he's viewed on the world stage (if you hadn't already guessed...):

About the sig,
Im a bit lazy when it comes to signatures(I should make one, I know) But I think that picking something you really like, or think is beautifully does the same thing as tamlin described....
quotations are always good in any sig, as they express a certain state of mind. Your state of mind!

No we can't do that, if we do that.....we can't have the record for the most replied introduction thread! So it has to stay
BTW: where did the politics go?? I hoped for a discussion about the system used in America and that in Europe! Like in Europe everyone can become premier, even if they are poor. The only thing they need are enough people that share there opinion!

Well, I think (in theory) that's the way it's supposed to work in all democratic countries (including the US)...but it rarely seems to work in practice.

Voting is all about making the people feel important about themselves anyways, while they're actually getting a bag pulled over their heads...

Absolutely! If your choices are someone who wants to ruin you one way, versus someone who wants to ruin you a slightly different way, voting is merely a formality –
especially considering that (a) candidates rarely do what they promise to do (ex. FDR ran for peace, then got us involved in WWII, when we had enough problems of our own WITHOUT a war) and (b) the method one side uses to get what they want will be turned around and used by the other side to get what they want.
That leads me to say that America only has one big party, not two - "Democrat" and "Republican" merely denote HOW they want the government to expand, not IF (which is what they should be concerned about). All they want to do is take my guns and my freedom in order to line their own pockets.
I recall someone saying earlier how much they hated big business trying to steal from us; I would actually prefer if big biz were the predominant group wanting my money, because they can't legally shoot me, steal my stuff, or imprison me if I refuse! Besides, the profit system forces big biz to give me something I want in exchange for my money; government has the power to tax, so its decisions are mostly arbitrary and detrimental.
There's my two cents.

Turvas,
If I get an bag over my head, let it be one with red striping!
I don't think that voting has completely no use, but I am afraid that it will lose it value more and more. Here in the netherlands, only 51% of the people showed up to vote, that means that a big part of society is unrepresented in the government....
Also if that percentage went under the 50% than there would be completely no use, as the bigger part just doesn't care. If that happens, the government could just stop with the current voting system....which is pretty bad for us.
But I don't believe that we live in an dictatorship, if it is an dictatorship, than what the hell was sadam doing??

it does seem like more people give a s**t about voting for the next american idol than voting for the new president.
perhaps if we could elect our next leader via internet voting and text?!?
also (this may seem really wrong but its just a thought.) but since other countries must deal with each others politicians and policies, perhaps they should get some small say in thier neighbours/allies leaders also. now im not saying to let the citizens of guam elect the nect prime minister, or give the chinese people the swing vote in the presidential election of the U.S. but, shoudn't the ugly dress syndrome sort of apply?
something more like a poll of one's neighbouring friendly countries.

Estonia is actually working on that. It is still being developed, but the progress is strong.
Not my fault that the "progress leading" countries aren't working on ideas like that.

Yeah but they are working on that because of security problems. Everyone there is just afraid to go and and to the voting machines. So they do want to come, but they are just afraid....
maybe we should trade places with them. I think that when we get back, we all are much more content about our lives, and we probably do care about voting then!!

Excuse me, but what the f*ck? Estonia is not a part of the USSR, in case you didn't notice. In case you didn't notice, USSR was disbanded about 15 years ago. Afraid to vote? Estonia is one of the leading countries in voting activity.
