Some very interesting points there Moods & STM.

Moods: it's not just in the US that people have lost faith in politicians. I find that in the UK now there seems to be very little to choose between the three main parties and their policies (or lack of them). Thirty years ago we had proper politicians: people like Margaret Thatcher, Michael Foot, Tony Benn and Norman Tebbitt. Personally, I loathed Thatcher and her government, but at least it was never in doubt what their policies were. Nowadays all politicians seem to have been reduced to a bunch of faceless grey suits, manipulated (as you say) by Big Business - and currently led by the most faceless grey suit of them all, Gordon Brown - a man with absolutely no detectable personality whatsoever.

STM: Unfortunately, many people who have never been to the States or even met an American do get the impression that Yanks are "fat, uneducated, overbearing...etc.", and some most certainly are, but I think that the fact that Obama is currently leading in the polls can only be a good sign.
And let's not forget that any nation that gave the world Bob Dylan and Jack Daniels can't be all bad...

PS: 91st post! Woo-hoo!!

@ tamlin, true! Good artist have to come from good courntries (but those artist where born decades ago so they don't count anymore )

I guess that some years ago, politics where about ruling a country, about rebuilding it from the ashes that WWII left. Nowadays its just all about keeping the money coming, into their own pockets that is!

Maybe another big stir wouldn't hurt, and I'm not saying we should all go out grab a gun and revolve or something...but a common enemy that can be seen is always something good for a group of people. It's really the only reason why we al clamp together...to be safe, to be able to handle the "bad guys"...

And I believe that society reflects that. Everything becomes more and more individual. nobody cares about what happens 2 blocks away, as long as it isn't too close to their own homes! That is what we should fight! Than their probably won't be any problems with politicians any more, as they care about every single one, and everyone cares about each other!

So lets all have a beer shall we?

Umm...I'm not sure about that. In the 1930s, Hitler managed to convince a large number of the German people that the Jews were the "common enemy" - and look what happened then.

True, and what they did (hitler/ himler) was horrible. But they did got Germany organized. And they did produce magnificent machinery! So that common enemy was a good thing for the German state, as was it for the USA. ever thought of the millions of people that suddenly had a job in the USA? That war brought prosper to many countries! Even though the horrible part of it, it was a good thing for the development of many technologies. Its WW2 that got us into space this soon, otherwise it would have happend way later...(I am not trying to justify WW2, as that's just impossible. But you have to admit that it also brought good things...)

wow! religion, politics, war. this forum has it all!

it seems odd, dosent it. that war and profit are usually the motivators of innovation? It's too bad that "the benefit of mankind" isnt enough.

Turvas,

dont forget an artificial body! If you do you might not be able to use your bankai to defeat the operators! Believe me I tried

@ STM: true, the world would be much better if innovation was the product of good will, instead of profit or war...

at least for some innovation is all about the challenge of accomplishment.
then the profiteers move in like vultures.

Hi guys. sorry I was not able to contribute more to this record breaking forum but I have been off island working. Apparantly the new topic is politics and war. Sometimes I am ashamed to call myself an American. I have served in my countrys military and have seen the "horror". Now the reality is, no matter how many billions of dollars we spend, nor how many lives the politicians are willing to sacrifice, nothing good will come of it. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer and the day we pull out of Iraq (if we ever do) another Saddam will step up in power and everything will be for naught. Like most Americans, I have lost friends to this sad political hard-on. Imagine if we had spent our resorces on better things, schools, hospitals, research, jobs. It only takes one bullet to take out someone like Osama or Sadam or Hochi Min, but where is the profit in that? You want to talk about the technology brought about by war? We made it to the moon, big f...... deal, think about it neuclear warheads on rockets that can hit their targets faster.
Who will be our next Presedent? It doesn't matter, Mccain has said that he plans on staying in Iraq as long as it takes to bring PEACE. I don't think so, not only that, he is passed the age of mandatory reteirment according to a bill he supported fifteen years ago. Obama will probably get elected and I will support him as long as I can until some racest individual takes him out. Hillary will be P.M.S.ing and push the button that ends it all.
The truth is I am still proud to be an American, I am just tired of our leadership. By the time a politician reaches the point of presidential candidate, he or she has worn so many mask and made so many deals and promises that they are incapable of accomplishing anything at all. I for one want a third party, one that is strong enough to throw the ballance of power into a spin that will require each party to back up it's words with actions and there by truely representing the american people.
I throw my hat into the ring and officially announce my candadicy for President Of These United States. Richard Shelton (kokopedal)
I have to go off island to work again next week. I can't take my laptop with me so I will have to wait til next weekend to respond to any coments reguarding this post. That is if I don't get arrested for some of the "key" words used un this post.

Koko,

you have my vote! I can't donate much to your campagne (€2 p/w) but its a start...so when are we beginning?

That's the part that ruins it all isn't it? money? everyone wants money, and when they have it, they want more(that includes me). And because of that wars are being fought, people act ruthless. Countries fall, civilisations fall, and all because of money, something that only has worth as we give it to it...

no take a beer, that's worthy (guinness right tamlin?)

Yep that says it all in a nutshell. I can't be president because I don't have enough money. I wouldn't be me if I had to make a bunch of promises to people just for their support (money). What it comes down to is that the majority of Americans can't afford representation.
