damn, im just awake, why should I think up a topic?

It looks like you guys are up for 7 hours or so

but I wanted to ask you what you thought about the "global warming". Do you think its a fake, just to raise money for a dying cause? Or is it real, and should we watch out? And even if it is real, is it our doing?

I know we discussed this before tamlin, but still...

I brought it up because this "topic" seems almost disappeared. The only channels I see traces of it are discovery and national geographic. The politicians aren't that consirend, as they are still driving their 6liter v12 powered BMWs or Mercedeses. And the media don't find this attractive any more, and have all switched back to violence and war.

At the other hand, according do discovery, one vulcano spits out more toxic fumes than we can make in 10 years. And with toxic fumes I also mean CO2 which is the gas that is terrorizing keeping the warmth inside the atmosphere, and therefore creating the global warming.

So what do you think? Is it true, and should it be back on the agenda? Or is it a fake, and are the vulcanous responsible?

PS: tamlin you do know that you could run a small household on the farting of 10 cows, when it comes to gas, right? The thing is that methan isnt that responsible for the global warming....

re: farting cows.
how is the gas colected? and wouldnt the hoses get tangled?
would the introduction of a slight vaccuum increase yield?
what would be the best gas creating feed vs the health of the cow?
these and many other questions are unfortunately getting govt grants probably.

Actually...
methane cars
Tamlin probably saw this already, but Americans probably haven't. Less tangles than a bunch of hoses, and fewer clogged lines.

I refer my learned friend to the following site:
EIA - Greenhouse Gases, Climate Change, and Energy
Quote:
Many chemical compounds found in the Earth’s atmosphere act as “greenhouse gases.” ... Some of them occur in nature (water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide), while others are exclusively human made (certain industrial gases).
Culann: excellent link!

Sorry for beeing unclear, what I meant to say by "not respobsible for" is that its not the number 1 gas when it comes to the greenhouse effect. Because that is CO2, well that is in the vision of many politicians....

So yeah I knew that methane was part of it, but I think its a minor part of the whole thing.

(get my point, as I sometimes find it hard to express myself in english... )

GREAT link culann!! Had a laugh

Would it hurt to treat the "global warming" as if it IS our fault? If it is, and necessity being the mother of invention causes us to find alternate and clean sources of power then what's the problem? If it's NOT our fault, then no harm, no foul, and we're all better off anyway.

Ps: Cow generated methane is from burps.

sounds like a proper idea to me moods.
its too bad that more people cant think like that. (and yes I do drive a land yacht, but its more of a not by choice thing)

I wonder how much global warming is caused by human body heat alone?
also as I've wondered since I have moved to the desert, after noticing how much hot air an air conditioner puts off, how much cooler would my city be during the summer if all those a/c units werent blowing out hot air into the area.

That's a laudable notion, sure enough, but the problem is that (even if climate change were entirely the fault of human activity and if humans could prevent it) like many other laudable notions such as World Peace, Make Poverty History, Save The Whales etc. it relies on every person in the world working together towards a common goal. When has that ever happened in the history of humankind?
Of course I'm going to carry on attempting to save energy and recycle as much as I can - but that is because I want to try and save a bit of money and I don't like wasting stuff; in the face of the combined activity of nations like the US and China the efforts of the individual mean next to nothing.
Sorry if I sound cynical. Once upon a time (in my youth) I was filled with zeal for all sorts of causes but I guess I've just seen too many news reports and read too many history books.
