was it Al Gore? I knew it was some political flunky lol... Quayle probably couldn't begin to create a report on global warming without saying something like "the sun is closer to earth than ever as result of magnetic forces created from exhaust emissions."

the sad part is... they are gonna impose so many pollution restrictions on businesses and raise taxes for them that its no wonder so many move to other countries. Unemployment goes up... but... we can breath easier knowing we made things better for our unemployed youth <my attempt at sarcasm> hehe

and where does all this additional fuel tax go anyway?

I quite agree. Don't get me wrong - I'm all for cutting down on pollution and reducing waste and recycling and all that stuff. I just don't believe that it's going to have any effect whatsoever on climate change, which is a natural and irreversible process that's been going on since the world began and will continue to happen long after the human race is gone and forgotten.

godddammm $10.50 gal?
it would cost me almost $375.00 to fill my suburbans tank there!
no wonder persons overseas drive dinky cars.

I drive the burban due to nesicity though. my wife is handicapped, and I need a place to transport her wheel chair and keep it dry.
also have a child in transport, and big ass speakerboxes.
I use it to get wood for my fireplace. (not the most environmently friendly heating system, but it smells nice and its all i got)
and due to my paranoid nature, I cannot drive the truck if it has so much as a hiccup until i fix it. so its always running in top shape. new plugs/wires/cap/rotor/ etc every year. air filter 6 months. oil changes always on time.

and yes how could the world ever forget Turvas, his big head spils so much hot air just here at biorust that he warms the earth by a few degrees at least.
Al Gore's gonna get you man!

Speaking of price comparison: How many litres is a gallon?
Supertacky: I think that my otherwise cold attitude somewhat compensates that source of overheat.

Actually I just thought: a US gallon is less than an Imperial gallon.

1 US gallon = 3.785 litres
1 Imperial gallon = 4.546 litres

So that means it's the equivalent of $8.62 per (US) gallon. Still pretty expensive.

Tamlin: the refrence was to the old miller lite commercials from the 1980's
you may not have seen them since you were probably busy watching the "other football" and being subjected to ads for Guiness and Harp.

oh, my. thats a can of worms aint it: calling soccer "the other football"?

That's a great commercial! Couldn't get away with that nowadays, though - not in this country, anyway.

STM: The thing that's always puzzled me about American Football is why it's called "football" when there seems to be very little kicking of the ball going on?

the same people that predicted US would see $4 a gallon this year also predicted we will see $10 a gallon within next 2-3 years. They were right this time... so will they be right in 2-3 years?

I remember the late 70's when high performance cars started to dwindle on performance due to emissions regulations and the number of cars dropped too... well I think its gonna happen again with sports cars and SUV's.

if we see $10 a gallon... US drivers may opt for those little "Le Car's" like Europeans too

What's the situation with Bio-fuels in the US? I seem to remember seeing an episode of "Mythbusters" where they ran a diesel car on used vegetable oil with no appreciable degradation in performance - maybe that's the future?

In that case:
You can get 1 us gallon here for 5,6$ and 1 imperial gallon for 6,8$. And the prices just rose. It used to be quite much lower a few weeks ago.

probably has the same origins as why we (americans) call soccer, soccer even though the players wear shoes.

for that matter, why do drag racers wear gender appropriate clothes?

and when was the last time you could go the dealership and but a stock car like in nascar?
probably sometime around the same time that big cars went away in the us in the 1970's

as long as there are still suburbans left on the road, im much more comfortable driving something equal in size as opposed to something that would get crushed.
whenever im in a little car and a big pickup or suv is nearby, i worry that, in case of accident, I could end up loosing very badly.
weight and momentum go a long way towards surviving.
i would rather be in the bigger of the two.

while bio-fuels like bio-diesel are good idea... in practicality.. they fail. Not enough supply to make it viable solution. Its good as an alternative for those that have access to these used materials and willing to invest in a machine to process it as some have done but... its not a solution that is going to work for the masses of people in US. I have already heard of people stealing used grease from tanks at places that are currently using this from restaurants to power their company vehicles. People are stealing gas and grease now lol.

they looked at using corn also... great idea... however not enough supply there either... and would make cost of corn for consumers to "eat" outrageous.

I heard someone made it work with grass like in your yard... but seems like we would need vast sod fields everywhere to make it sensible and we are losing our farm lands quickly to residential developers as farmers find it harder and harder to earn a living.

bottom line is to supply the demand for fuel in US or anywhere else in world... you gotta have LOTS of it available and then it has to be something not already a commodity like corn. The only solution I see is air and water. Getting back to those hydrogen ideas is likely a better solution or solar. We just need to spend more money on R&D for these things... and it might happen if we can push the lobbyists aside
