Quote:
Death be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not soe,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill mee.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.
- John Donne
I don't really see what a poem about death has got to do with sarcasm...unless you were being sarcastic?

Well we have had politics......provoking and we have poked turvas around...lets try and get on with science

Than after that we can do arts....and then mass communitcation (which is terrible!) As mass communication is one of the reasons that everything is going the wrong way! But first arts and science...ideas anyone?

...or 23.44% of the way there.

So back to art and science...anything in particular you want to debate?
  • Creationism vs Evolution (always gets people riled up)
  • Morality (or otherwise) of genetic engineering, stem-cell research etc.
  • Is it defensible to spend vast amounts of money on a Space Exploration programme when there are more pressing problems in this world (poverty, hunger, disease etc.)?
  • Which is better: PC or Mac? (another source of endless - and probably pointless - debate)
  • Climate change/global warming - an Inconvenient Truth or a Convenient Bandwagon for politicians?
  • Modern Art: is it groundbreaking, challenging, thought-provoking...or just a load of old toss?
  • Leonardo da Vinci or Michaelangelo: who would win in a fight?
  • Pepsi or Coke?

Creationism vs Evolution (always gets people riled up) - already did the religion thing
Morality (or otherwise) of genetic engineering, stem-cell research etc. - same
Is it defensible to spend vast amounts of money on a Space Exploration programme when there are more pressing problems in this world (poverty, hunger, disease etc.)? - I like that one
Which is better: PC or Mac? (another source of endless - and probably pointless - debate) - cliche, but it could work
Climate change/global warming - an Inconvenient Truth or a Convenient Bandwagon for politicians? - like that one too
Modern Art: is it groundbreaking, challenging, thought-provoking...or just a load of old toss? - You can't really argue taste effectively, so that could go on forever (or just fall on its face)
Leonardo da Vinci or Michaelangelo: who would win in a fight? - Michaelangelo; have you seen what he does to solid rock?!
Pepsi or Coke? - Another taste issue...
Go wherever, and I will follow. You know what I like.

Climate change/global warming - an Inconvenient Truth or a Convenient Bandwagon for politicians?
Both. The truth is that the planet is turning to another warming cycle, but at the same time it's a bandwagon for politicians to aim the publics eye off of much larger, serious and (too often) un-natural issues.

Good grief - we actually agree on something, turvas! This won't do at all!!

STM: sorry, I don't get that reference. Are we talking about meat pies again?

yep... tis true. Climate change is inevitable. Sure, humans might have played a part in its change but... its going to happen whether we quit polluting or not.

I blame Dan Quayle and his documentary lol.

come on everybody... LET'S GET GREEN... despite that fact that we are in a recession and being environmentally conscious means everything is gonna cost more $$$... its the responsible thing to do

In the UK, imminent price rises in the already extortionate cost of fuel are being "excused" by our government as being part of their "green agenda" - which basically means that they're going to force everyone to cut back on their fuel usage by making it just too damn expensive to buy - with the added bonus of implying that anyone who disagrees is "anti-green" and therefore an enemy of society and the Earth as a whole.

Just to put things into perspective for our American members, the average price of petrol (gasoline) in the UK is currently £1.15 per litre (approximately $10.35 per gallon). Of that, only about 48p is the price of the actual fuel - the rest is tax.

Last year, Channel 4 screened a very interesting documentary called "The Great Global Warming Swindle" which raised some very interesting (and probably Inconvenient from Al Gore's point of view) questions:
