Noob

Hi all within this forum,

I am very new to the photographic manipulation thing.

I am mainly interested in the photographic correction/edit functions for now but having seen what can actually be done, I am sure I will get into this way deeper than I planned.

I had browsed through quite a few of the tutorials on this forum prior to registering.
Must admit you guys are very talented and that is where I want to get.

I hope you dont mind the "stupid" questions that will be raised......

There are no stupid questions, there are, however, lots and lots of stupid anwsers. From time to time. Hope you can make the best out of 'em. Welcome to Biorust.

My grade seven teacher once told me that the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask...

That's stuck with me my whole life...

Glad to have you around!

Mike.

Thanks for the welcome.

I am sure I will learn lots as I know nothing ....yet..... lol

I have heard the expression of no stupid questions myself, from experience however I have had quite a few that have given me a good giggle.

Example: do I have to turn my computer on to use photshop?

I hope my questions will be of a slightly higher "quality" than that .

Mbe i should start with one here even though I know it is not the right place to post it.

When capturing an image relatively upclose using a flash you get the white light reflection in the subjects eye.
Any ideas on how to remove this and not have a very fake dull looking eye?

There are (as with most things in Photoshop) lots of ways to achieve this - firstly, which version of PS are you using?

Tamlin,

I have CS2, and pretty soon I should have CS3.

Thanks in advance.

In that case my first choice would be the Healing tools and/or the Red Eye Removal tool (which can be used to remove colours other than red). Any chance you could post an example?

As a photographer, my first suggestion would be to place some tissue paper over your flash to diffuse the light when doing those close ups... I'm assuming you have a fixed on-camera flash that can neither be moved or angled, but there is likely a way to reduce the power of the flash (usually by thirds on P&S Digital cameras).

Getting better control of the light of your flash will improve the tone and contrast of the entire photo, not to mention save you the time in Photoshop...

When i do a shoot, the less photoshop work I have to do afterwards the better...

Mike.

Mike,

You are correct in the fact that I have a all in one deal with my flash and camera.
Flash is on my shopping list..... still waiting for that damn ship to come in..

I will definately try your advise.

Just as info:
I have the following camera, Canon EOS 400D.
I will browse through the manual tonight to have a good look to find flash settings.

Thanks for the tips.

I think the Red Eye Removal Tool would be perfect for this. Even though this isn't actually "red", it's caused by the same thing (flash reflecting off the eye's retina). Unfortunately I'm at work at the moment and don't have CS2 or CS3 to hand, but I'm almost certain that you can set the colour that you want to remove if it's not the usual human red-eye.

Of course, if I'm totally wrong there are other ways to do it. Here's a good tutorial: Fix Red Eye

(Although this tut is for Elements, the principle is the same)

UPDATE: Oops - just checked CS3 and apparently there isn't an option to change the Red Eye Removal Tool's colour! Guess I must have dreamed that part!

Man, that's a really cute dog, I know this is a little off subject, but I just had to comment. Gave me a chuckle. Welcome to BioRust.
Peace

Stevieg,
Thanks. Merlot is rather cute. She was 8 weeks old there.
Merlot is a Basset Hound.
