Illustrator cs4 - Convert outlines/graphics to text?

Hello i´m still getting use to Illustrator cs4, i was a user of Freehand, there existed a very useful tool related to text, one could copy a object/graphic and directly paste it into text this object would become text and you could resize it like if was text for the exception of changing color i think, very useful and fast to create your own bullet points.

Does anybody know to do this or something similar in Illustrator cs4?

In Illustrator you'd need to use a mask.

Place you text above the graphic you want to use.

Select both the text and the graphic and choose Object > Clipping Mask > Make.

That should do it.

what i meant is not to mask text or use a text as a mask for a image or a graphic.
Instead what i need is a way to convert a especific graphic a outline object to text,
a way to make your own bullet points.

You can not create fonts with Illustrator.
