Yeshua crucified on the Cross - pencil art painted

Yeah, I know… it’s been done a million times. My turn. For the most part, in this country we tend to make Christ look like he was a man out of European culture… or sometimes African American. I like the idea of Christ looking more like a Jewish man, side locks and all. I did it that way because I have never seen him depicted on the cross in a manner that authentically indicates that he was a Jew. His hair has the hint of "ruddy" so as to suggest that he is from the line of King David – like the scriptures tell that Messiah would be.

THOU FORSAKEN

My pencil drawing and some details about the art are at the site, as well as some things that I needed to get off my chest. If you are not into talking about religion, politics, and racism… just check out the art. The art encapsulates the written ideas that are there anyway.

What about the sparks – keep them or not?

Peace.

What do the sparks represent?

Yeshua - Christ crucified on the Tree

The idea is this:

It is written that the sky went dark. The sparks come from torch lights and/or bonfires below the cross that were set by Roman soldiers. They also provide the lighting.

Notice the blood skull under the nail?

I'd say keep them, then. They do add something to the overall "mood" of the image.

Regardless of what you think about the subject matter, the artwork is excellent and highly realistic (without being gory). You are definately a dab hand at traditional media... and digital scanning too!

Finally, someone makes Jesus look Jewish! I'm sick of white Jesus and Irish Mary (especially in nativities, drives me up the wall). Good job. It's very effective.

I agree. with cluann.
I would however would consier adding some (slight) hue to the glow from the aforementioned fire below.
but then again, thats just my opinion.
it still looks awesome just the way it is.

Amazing job! Love the idea of the light coming from the torches below. We can't see them but we know they are there.

I don't believe in any faith, but that is a very good piece of art.
