Anybody use Inkscape?

Hi,

Anyone here uses Inkscape? It is a free 2D vector drawing program.

I used it and find it pretty good.

Hi - yes to make use of trace bitmap. In other words I only use inkscape as a GUI for the tracing feature (Potrace), it produces the best by far vector shape tracing I've seen.

Is it better than the Live Trace feature in Illustrator?

I realise I'm sticking my neck out here, but yes IMHO Potrace results are better than Livetrace.

The features are very similar too if not better, Potrace has Threshold, Scan/Colour steps, Gaussian Blur, Suppress Speckles Size, Corner Threshold, Path tolerance.

Attached example, you can usually spot an autotrace...

Thanks I was just wondering! So do you think Inkscape is better than Illustrator?

Thanks, no I think Inkscape is what it is. The only shining light for it is that its opensource and uses Peter Selinger's Potrace.

Illustrator is a better experience all round, however my vector app of choice is Xara Xtreme Pro
