I've heard all good things about Corel Draw. It's widely used and compatable with alot of other programs/RIP's. Easy to use. I use Adobe products myself though.

I used Corel Draw at work it is a lot like photoshop. I think it just a matter of preference. If you use other Adobe software I would stick with photoshop though. Corel Draw seems to work more like Illustrator than Photoshop anyway. Hope this helped.

I love Corel Draw. I think it's got a very user friendly interface and much quicker to learn than Adobe Illustrator. It's also very good at exporting to various formats (AI, PSD, EPS, PDF, etc). I have a number of tutorials for Corel Draw if you're interested.

I still use corel draw when I need a vector image broken apart. There is a Layer Manager but I've never really figured out what to use it for since all the objects are seperate and clickable. Please note that I have a very old copy version 7, things may have changed.

I use CorelDRAW 11. Layers are available as far as I know in all versions. Bring them up by selecting:

Window/ Dockers/ and select Object Manager.

Not a big fan of Corel, I prefer Xara Xtreme Pro which interestingly was originally a Corel product called Corel Xara until the team developing it broke away and setup themselves. Xara is far easier to use than Corel or Illustrator, also the rendering times are way faster which is a boon on complex vector work.

Not to wonder off the subject of Corel, but I also use Xara. A very user friendly, very inexpensive, vector program with a light bitmap rendering menu. If you are looking to knock out work quickly, this one will do it. Easy to learn and worth investigation.
