Hello New Friends!
Hello, I've just joined here today in hopes everyone here can be of help to me! I'm pretty much a novice with designs, but i really want to get involved with it. I recently had an employer who taught me the basics of Photoshop, but I've hardly touched Illustrator. I've got my own copy of both and reallly want to start taking advantage of them.
My husband has started a new company and has asked me to design the logo. I've got the basic concept, I just need some help to make it! The company name is Surefire Solutions. I want to make Surfire in a medium sized block text, then when it comes to the dot on the "i", i want to make it so it's on fire.
Anyway, if anyone knows a good way to create fire on illustrator, please help!
Many Many thanks!
Sara

hey sara, welcome to biorust! You've found a great place.
as for your question, I think you might have a better chance getting it answered in the illustator section of the forums

Welcome to BioRust!
Hey Sara,
So you are designing a logo for a website? I would be glad to help in any way I can. I have to tell you though that I am not familliar with Illustrator, but I do know the GIMP, which is very similar to Photoshop, so I just might be some help in that department.

Hello Sparky! Thank you for your offer. You will have to forgive my ignorance, but i'm not quite sure what the GIMP is. But i would love any help i can get! Although, i would personally like to do the actualy creation of the logo, as its a bit of a learning process for me!

Sorry to tread on Sparky's toes, but if you've already got Photoshop (as you say in your original post), you don't need GIMP. From what I've learned, they do pretty much the same stuff (although maybe in a different way). The main advantage of GIMP is that it's open source.
Sparky: don't know if you've seen this thread or not: http://forums.biorust.com/photograph...hotos-1-a.html (Combining 2 photos in 1?)
Someone asking for GIMP-related help?

Hello Sara,
I'm going to give you a quick overview of the GIMP. First off, GIMP stands for GNU (which stands for GNU's not Unix, lol), Image Manipulation Program. It can do the basic things like paint, fill and rectangle select, and it can also do amazing things like super novas, clone images and map images to 3D objects like spheres and cubes. All it takes to make it work is a little bit of talent and some knowledge of the basics, and after you work with it for a while it becomes your friend.
As you use Photoshop here is a link to a tutorial for making fire effects.

Have fun!

Yes tamlin, I have seen the thread and helped out the person in need of it. She was very happy with the tutorial I gave her

Well I also want to add something into this answer thing!
so therefore, I've recently posted up a reply in a thread asking for the something the same in photoshop. Although illustrator is different in many ways it may give you ideas....!

all the examples you given Sara are rastor examples, things to do in photoshop, she is looking to do a logo, which should probably be done in vector, aka: illustrator, personally when it comes to doing flames in a logo I would do something simple and stylize, not a photorealistic flame.
here's an example I would not copy this, but I'm just showing a clean simple ...flame.

Thanks agentxi, thats exactly the style I am looking for. I will have a look at that tutorial and see if I can pull something like that off. If anyone else has tutorials for creating vector images or logos in this style it would be very useful.
