Live Tracing Help

I've been trying all morning to work with this graphic in Illustrator:

I've managed to do a live trace and all, but I just want to be able to change all the black colors into any other color I want, but when I change the stroke color, it just does the outline and when I try fill... it ends up filling areas that are white/transparant and lossing the look of the graphic.

This photo is a gif and holds the trans, when I do a live trace/live paint some parts get comverted into a white fill.

What am I doing wrong? Help? Tips?

Thanks!

Your not doing anything wrong... but convertine complex raster images to vector is tedious...

You have to ungroup all of the elements of the resulting image and delete the elements that are filled with white...

It takes some time and patience, but it is effectve.

Mike.

Yah... I'm gathering that. I ended up getting out all the white areas... now how would I go about getting all the existing color (black) into a different color.

The way you described it above... you have to select the remaining elements and change their stroke and/or fill color to the desired color.

Couldnt you just

re-rasterize in photoshop and cahnge the color that way? You could use smart objects to link between illustrator and photoshop without needing to do all that work... I could be wrong though, give it a whirl

Please forgive me if I am high jacking this thread, but when using Live Trace is there any way of improving the resolution? Many times I run a Live Trace all of my straight lines get all messy and look like they were drawn free hand. I am fairly new to this, so my question might be out of place here.

Many times you will have to play around with the live trace options until it gives you something close to what you want. With line art you may need to adjust the minimum trace angle or the blur option to get your lines to become less jagged. I hope this helps.
