Talking HELP--vectorized logo using illustrator CS2

Hi,

need some wisdom. i created a logo w/text using the drawing options on powerpoint, is there a way for me to import it into Illustrator CS2 and convert the file to a vectorized file? or do I have to simply recreate all over on illustrator?

any help is appreciated.
ps. please break it down as I'm also new to Illustrator.

thanks!

Hi sarah:
I'm not an expert on either Powerpoint or Illustrator, but I just tried this and it seemed to work.
  1. In Powerpoint, save the slide that contains your logo as a Windows Metafile (.WMF format)
  2. Open the WMF file in Illustrator - each individual item in your logo (including the text) will be an editable object.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Tamlin,

Just tried it and yes all the components seem to be singular so that I can edit, now the fun begins.

You know I stumble onto this website when I was looking for tutorials on Illustrator, great resources and very talented people! should have stumble onto this website alot sooner, maybe someone could just help me design the logo for fun and I can pay something for it. Sure would be alot more creative and talented than I.

thanks again

Photoshop has some vector tools but it will not create true vector images.

hi,
sorry, been swamp. here's the logo in jpeg. so the business is an autobody shop. I have not had a chance to tinker around just yet. the tires can used some work, but just to form an image of a go-cart for now. as you can see I've incorporated the word dreams (or scribble) into the shape of a go-cart. we're trying to achieve simplicity, something that would last.

any comments or suggestion is appreciated.

thanx!
sarah

The logo looks pretty good to my untutored eye - the only criticism I would make is that you don't need the apostrophe in "Dream's" if you are meaning the plural of the word "dream". Used in this way, the apostrophe signifies possession (as in "John's hat", "Jane's chainsaw", "Tamlin's elves" etc.), which is not what I think you mean here.

Sorry to be picky, but you did ask.

Remember, Photoshop can do true vector on the fly , however it WILL be rasterized on the calculation is completed .
Illustrator is the dogs for logo's.

Just to clarify Photoshop does indeed have good vector capability in the form of the Pen tool, Freeform, Add and Delete anchor points etc. Provided you save your file with layers and as the native .psd photoshop file the vectors will stay intact.

Your vector work can then be exported to illustrator by selecting File /Export /Paths to Illustrator...

Sarah apologies for going off topic.

Often if I've received a power point document I'll do a screen grab (On PC press Alt/Print Sreen) and paste the results in an Illustrator layer to be re-traced either by hand or using LiveTrace. That might seem painful but the reason being WMF is not so great if you need your work to be vinyl or laser cuttable etc.

Just occured to me another option I've had success with is to convert your powerpoint to a PDF.

If you have the latest MS I believe there's an option to export to PDF. If not install the free PDF995 printer. Then simply print the powerpoint to PDF995 and the result will be a fairly standard PDF containing all your vector and bitmap work. The pdf can be opened directly in Adobe Illustrator for futher editing.
