Memory and scratch disks!

Hello!

I'm new to the forum and I just installed Illustrator CS 2 V.12.0 and I can't open any project, every time I open a pic, I get this message sayin;

There isn't enough memory to preview the document.

Yes, I do have 520 mb on my C drive but I edited the preferences to make the scratch disks on other disks that has way more space than that.

So why doesn't want to work?

Help please?

How much RAM do you have?

And if C drive is your boot drive, you really need more than 520mb on it for a healthy system, regardless of how the scratch disk are set.

RAM is 256, I see. So I need more space on C, in order for it to function well?

The system requirements for Illustrator CS2 on Windows are as follows:
  • Intel Pentium III or 4 processor or equivalent
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 or 4, or Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or 2
  • 256MB of RAM (512MB recommended)
  • 820MB of available hard-disk space
  • Color monitor with 16-bit video card
  • 1,024x768 monitor resolution
  • CD-ROM drive
  • For Adobe PostScript printers: PostScript Level 2 or PostScript 3
  • Internet or phone connection required for product activation
  • Broadband Internet connection required for Adobe Stock Photos.

Although it says 256Mb RAM is the minimum requirement, I suspect that in practice you'll need more memory than that for any sort of reasonable performance. I'd also agree with Jolt - the more free space you have on your C drive, the better your whole system will perform. You don't say what the total size of your C drive is, but generally speaking if you have less than 10%-20% free, your system performance will suffer.

Yup, you absolutely need more RAM. In reality 1GB is really a bare minimum.

I was getting the same message, so I upgraded to 4G of RAM. For some reason CS3 didn't recognize the addition. Ultimately, I had to uninstall CS3 and reinstall. Just thought I would post in case someone else had the same prob.
