Adobe illustrator Slowing down on Loading..

i've got AI CS and CS2... my computer got 5K of fonts installed on my system, the problem comes when i load the AI (both version), and for some times it always says error message: "could not complete the request of operation" in the end of loading, eventually it loads after few tries. CS2 will load two times more tries of CS version.

is this an issue? is there a fix of it than lessen my font?... in Coreldraw, it loads alot quicker and no error message with the same fonts installed.

i've got 1gig of ram, p4 2.4gig, and 120gig HDD. loading time of CS ver. around 3~5mins.. CS2= 6~8mins.

um, lol, yes.. if you are not happy with it..
I would uninstall your ps and reinstall it..
the problem could be caused from too many extras loaded in..lol.. I have to turn my cs on and go andmake coffee..
You may have more plugins installed than you realy want. when you reinstall only add the plugins you want.
You may have more brushes than you actualy use.. you dont have to pre-load all of your brushes. you can just keep your most used installed in the program and keep the rest of them in a folder and swap them from that.

I couldnt tell you if 5k of fonts is normal or not..I have never thought about mine..

your ram is fine, knowing how big your drive isnt a thing. .its how much of that 120 is free space..but unless your computer is absolutly choked with programs and things 120 would usualy be acceptable.

What do you mean by 5k fonts? If you mean 5 kilobytes worth of fonts, that's nothing at all - my Fonts folder is 88Mb in size - but if you mean you've got 5000 fonts installed, then that is a ridiculously large number, and it will drag your Adobe programs down (and possibly other applications that load fonts like Word). What you've got to ask yourself is, are you ever ever going to need 5000 fonts? I suspect the answer will be "no", so I'd get yourself a font manager if you haven't got one already and do some weeding.

if it is your fonts you might find this little app handy to choose the ones you will be wanting to keep.

it will give you your installed font list visualy

just a hint.. change the sample text to something you like "The Five Boxing Wizards Jump Quickly" gets a bit ahhh.. you should choose a selection of vowels in capitals and regular with a few of your favourite words

You might also try edit > preferences > performance and move the slider up and give PS more available ram.

If you mean 5,000 fonts... that's your problem entirely. You need a font manager or remove about 4,500 fonts.

It is definitely a problem with having too many fonts loaded. In fact, I've even had trouble with Windows performance in general from having too many fonts. A good thing to do if you use a lot of fonts is to remove all of the subdivision fonts (e.g. bold, italic etc.)
