How to Use Live Paint and Live Trace?

I have a scanned image that have placed into Illustrator to covert to Vector so I have cleaner lines. The image is a scan of Homer Simpson from a magazine.

My problem that I am having is once I Live Trace & and Live Paint the object I don't how to delete lines or edit them once I am finishing Live Painting.
I need the lines present so I can fill color to a particular area, but once the color is present I would like to get rid of the black line as it is not apart of the composition, just a place- holder so that I can fill a particular area with a color.

How do I remove the individual lines once I am finished with them?

Thanks

Here is the picture.
The key thing that I'm trying to do, is that each color region needs to be editable once I am finished, editing the picture.

i don't know if i understand you,but once you have live traced, then go to live paint>then fill with colour, and you should be able to edit the colours,
if you mean get the black lines e.g the black lines that goe around homers face as in the picture then just live paint them with the colour as you want,i treid it and it seemed all right, but maybe i have not understood you right

what did you live trace in which preset

try colour 6 preset

I have tried about every color preset I can think of. My original question is, if I live trace a black and white image, and then fill in the colors, how do I delete the black lines that I no longer need. For example the color that creates the shadow on the right side of his face. I need a black line to color that area in, but in the final presentation the black line is not needed.

Then I tried Live Tracing and Live Painting the entire image, color and all. The only problem being is that the black lines do not turn out as clean when Live Tracing the entire image.

Thanks for the help, as I really don't understand Illustrator.

once you are done the live trace, I usually hit the "expand" button at the top toolbar,

then you go ahead, and run a "smooth" on the lines that you find are rough...this should clean up some excess bumps in the lines...

once you are done this process, you will have to go ahead and manually tweak your lines, to smooth them out.

work with the "convert" tool to get the bezier handles to either disappear or show up. If you have the bezier handles out, then you can play with the handles to help smooth the curve and change it's shape and weight.

I don't have a lot of time right now to fully explain every tool, but if this helps then good, if not, I'll come back later on monday to explain it a little more in detail.

No luck
I even tried overlaying an outline of the image to fill in lines.
I took Photoshop and filled all colors in white, just leaving the outlines.
Illustrator trashes the lines, because they are too thin and choppy.

Thanks
