I'm desiging a logo for the Dept. of Math and Stats. Anyone have any ideas how I can improve this...or a fresh idea.

Thanks!

My first impression is that you need to increase the leading (the space between the lines of text) in the larger text - the letters in the second line are interfering with those in the top line. Also, the background graphic is a little intrusive - maybe try a contrasting colour?

Tamlin is right about the background graphic and the space between the lines.
Why do you integrate the address in the logo? Just place it outside the box if you insist on having the address in the logo. Don't forget you are making a logo not a notice board. Less is more.

If what you're designing is a header or banner for a web page, you might want to have a browse through these:

They might give you some fresh ideas.

The color choice is something you should look at as well. Using such a bright color certainly can be ok, but I think in this case, something more traditional might work a little better.

perhaps play around with some different fonts? The first thing that I noticed is that the text is rather hard to read at first glance...
