I'm sorry to break it to you, but (as far as I know) there is no magic tutorial or technique that is going to turn you into an expert illustrator overnight - believe me, if there were, I'd be right at the head of the queue, because my drawing skills are nonexistant! The images you have provided as examples are the product of:
(a) Years of practice and
(b) Talent.
However, there are lots of tutorials around that give you an insight into various aspects of this kind of art - I think there are even some here at BioRUST, and many more can be found by using any Internet search engine. Here's some to get you started:

HOW TO DRAW MANGA -- MANGA UNIVERSITY

Manga Tutorials - How to Draw Anime & Manga Style

Polykarbon: Tutorials!

Anime and Manga - Learn to Draw Anime and Manga - Japanese Comics and Animation

As I said, the only thing I really know about drawing is that I can't do it, but there are some really talented members here who might be able to give you a few pointers (people like xiaobaosg and d31967 are two who come to mind immediately).

I don't know, but I would guess that you're quite young, so don't get disheartened - just keep practising. If you have the talent and the determination, you'll get there in the end.

Well put tamlin. I am also in the lack of talent drawing category, so I chose to go another direction. I always wished I put more effort into it and tried to improve while I was younger, so like he said, don't give up. Try picking up a book (*gasp* mentioning the "b" word on an internet forum), there are a ton of great books on sketching out there with what appears to be great advice.

Very true indeed.

But speaking of practice

When I was a kid, as in around 7 to 8, my mother gave me this splendid idea on how to sharpen up my drawing skill. Maybe this method could you give a start.

You need tracing paper or white paper. Practice to trace pictures as in put tracing paper on top of a picture that you would like to trace. That will help to give you a 'warm up' on hand control, accuracy and many more. I used to trace a lot of pictures from simple pictures to pictures in encyclopedia.

So practice on tracing a simple Manga character. Once you managed to master it, try to draw that character again. But instead of putting tracing paper on top of that Manga picture put the Manga picture beside you while drawing. Try to trace with accuracy. Once you master that try to draw a Manga character from your own mind. Just remember how a Manga character looks like (with accuracy) and let your hand flow gently on a piece of a drawing paper.

Practice.

Send a message via MSN to Kenneth
I have to agree with you all. And I recognize Babytbutch comment very well.
I spent much of my youth with transparent paper over comic books.
I can also recommend croquies, quick drawing of live model. Like a musician to practice scales.
Just don’t think the latest or the most expensive equipment will make you better. Mostly just plain tools works best.
Have a look at this, somebody is drawing a masterpiece in MS paint!

just please try to ignore those horrible ads!

Practice is the only way, to improve your skills properly. Grab a piece of paper, buy yourself a book which will teach you the basics of perspective, forms, colors etc. and then just start over.

By the way kenneth,... this is so not fair, posting such links which make me feel so poor. Very amazing, thanks for sharing

The "practice makes perfect" rule cannot be ignored. I started drawing when I was young and had lots of encouragment along the way. Buying some books on drawing cartoons and manga, as well as sitting down with a sketchpad and pencil will really help. The journey of a thousand miles begins with your pencil...

Talking Keep a sketch book with you always

One of the best things I can think of is to just carry a sketch book everywhere (ok, except to class where you will get detention for drawing instead of math as my boys did). I take it when we go to a resturant,to the beach in the summer, even to visit friends or relatives. I just do quick sketches just to capture the basic shape. don't worry about details. You need to learn to sketch before you draw. Working the whole page before you get down to details.

Another good skill builder is to take a picture and turn it upside down and draw it. Then you will draw more of what you see than what you think you see. I went to college, had kids, and just started drawing and painting again. I was really, really rusty. I read in a drawing book to do that and thought what the heck. Boy did it help my drawing. To start with you might need to make a grid on a peice of plastic or acitate to lay over your picture. Lightly draw the grid on your drawing paper and fill in the squares one by one. This again helps you to see the shapes and forms that make up the picture so that you draw it more accurately.

I also strongly recommend that you keep your favorite drawings somewhere that you can see and compare them to see how you are indeed improving with each stroke of the pencil, pen or brush that you use. Don't get discouraged if your pictures arent as you want them to be. You will see a big improvement. Remember we are here to help you. I wish my kids had an interest in art (more than drawing pictures that get you in trouble at school) Instead I have a few neices who love art and I try to spend time with them. Most artist enjoy helping other artist so feel free to use the site. Best of luck!
