again, very nice 5-0. I looked at the wacom site, and it looks like tablets are out of my price range for the moment. Just curious, what model and size are you getting?

i wish that i could just have one right now. I hear alot of people saying that you need to be really excellent at drawing before you make the switch, so i may wait a year.

so a graphire 3 will do art and such?
The wacom website said that the Intuos2 (which is more expensive) would do that job better... i guess it's just for professionals. 1000+ pressure levels do sound appealing to me though.

Oh, a graphire can do much the same as a full intuos, although the functionality is a little toned down. Its probably best to draw a comparison to sports cars. You can buy a porsche or a lotus for its fancy looks, but unless you drive lots you are unlikely to feel the benefit of the extra power under the hood and a more traditional car would be more suitable for you. Its the same with the Intuos - its hideously expensive, and if you only intend to use it once in a while, or for a limited selection of applications, the graphire would be better value for money...

yeah i might have to get an intuos2 since i want to become a professional sketch artist, for architecture design.
because it has 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity. They both sound like truly excellent tablets though.

hehe, i talked to a few more people and it looks like your right, the intuos is for really high end stuff, like architextural design and such.

Yeah... or just for showing off! At either rate, they are both excellent tablets, and i'd buy one in a flash if I could get my science-orientated brain around drawing anything more than stick-battles.

I have used both the Graphire and the Intuos... and speaking as a geek who uses the tablet any time at the computer, I feel better with the Intuos.
You don't have to be great at drawing to take advantage of it either, but I hear different stories about people adjusting to using a tablet. I took to it right away [my drawing at the time was awful... I still have old pictures to prove it], while others I know can't use them at all [a professional local artist simply couldn't use one -- she was trying to get into digital art].
Oh, and for size I heartily recommend the 9x12 and nothing higher. The 9x12 comforts to screen dimensions and fits inside a backpack if you ever travel between home/school/office to use it [which I do... dunno how many others do]. The bigger sizes are simply too large and you don't make use of their full size anyways due to the screen 3:4 ratio constraint.
Lastly, before I ramble incessantly onwards, don't get some refurbished/second hand one with no warranty. Stuff breaks and @#$% happens ... and in my case I had no warranty to fix it
