rounded corners illustrator

hello, I'm playing around with illustrator cs2 and I've always wondered this with previous versions of illustrator, when you create a rounded corner rectangle in illustrator and go to resize the object none proportioned, the damn corners gets stretched and all sorts.

Is there a way to keep the corners nice and clean when resizing?

thanks

justin

there must be some other way, but when i want to resize a rounded corner rectangle keeping the corners with their originals proportions, i use the white arrow selection tool and select the anchor points and move them until i get the size i want...
maybe this could help you until you find out if there's an easier way to do it.

Direct Select Tool (A)

mamarrachito,

thanks for the suggestion, however I'm having difficulty trying to understand what you mean and reproduce your results?

after I have drawn a rounded rectangle, choosing the 'Direct Selection Tool (A)' will allow me to drag/move the anchor points on the path of the rounded retangle one anchor point at a time which then again distorts the proportion of the original radius of the corner.

someone did mention using the 'Direct Selection Tool' on another forum, however can someone diverse a little more, maybe I'm being thick?

thanks peeps!

Don't know if this is the answer you are looking for but here goes, try holding down the ALT key as you manually resize the rounded corner rectangle, see if that helps. I use Illustrator 8, so what I do may be completely different from what you do in CS2

hey, hm. it's not working! sorry

just a quick question, which tool do you use when manually resizing the rounded rectangle?

I've tried holding down the Alt key plus many other combinations! I'm kinda desperate to find a solution because the company that I've just started at asked me if I could do some stuff in Illustrator CS2, and of course, I said YES (not wanting to look like a complete useless newbee)!

So, here I am doing stuff in Illustrator CS2, but this rounded rectangle thingy is really beginning to bug me!

please, someone must have a solution.

thanks

justin

I use the Direct Selection tool. If I know exactly how much I wish to reduce I use Object>Transform>Size and I select the option to proportionally scale the rounded corners. Wish I could be of more help...sometimes it helps to understand step-by-step exactly what someone is doing.

When you get this figured out please let me know what the solution was, I am interested to know what you discover. Good luck Justin, sorry I was not more help.
