To be helpful, the best books to get started in Python are:
* Learning Python (2nd ed.) by Lutz and Ascher, for beginners
* Python Cookbook (2nd ed.) by Alex Martelli, etc., for intermediate & advanced coders

Or use one of the online books:
* Dive Into Python
* Thinking in Python

Google will find them in a jiffy.
