Yay!
I used to work at National Record Mart in the early 80's ... free vinyl! Well, it was free after it had been played in the store for a month. We still have a record player tied into the all the necessary audio / video trappings. My husband listens to his music (mostly CD's now but vinyl from time to time) on his Genelec 1032A speakers while I still listen on my big heavy Techniques speakers that I bought in 1978.
I've never been an "audiophile" virgin vinyl collector, just a play-em-till-they're-white record abuser.
I have all my brothers and sisters old 45's too (mostly white) and a bunch of old 78's which I can only listen to on my Mom's very old player.
Speaking of "soothing crackle" ...
My husband listens to a lot of IDM (intelligent dance music) which is music created entirely of electronic sounds (no samples or real instruments) and hovers within certain guidelines. What kills me is that most of the IDM junkies worship a couple guys that call themselves, "Boards of Canada". Their big thing is making their music 'waver' like old documentary videos (you'd have to hear it).

And other IDMers that actually
ADD scratch and crackle to their electronic music.
Didn't we go digital to get away from all that?
