Doom 3

Has anyone gotten it yet? I'm thinking about purchasing it.

I really wouldn't know. I am abit weary about these new titles like halflife 2 etc because i dont know if they will live up to their hype.

halflife will always be one of the best tho! shame they're not bringing it out on mac

Hmmmm, hard to say. Its a good game.. of that there is no doubt... but its just a tad too formulaic really. Nothing really shines out as especially novel or creative. Think of Doom 3 as a cross between Doom 1 and System Shock 2... but with none of the uniqueness or depth that made either so utterly amazing. Truth to be told, I'm probably having more fun with Thief III at the moment... now THATS a tense game!

Its a stealth game that rewards brainpower over megafast reflexes. Oh, and it has pretty nice graphics too...

Only thing I know about Doom 3 is that the new beta drivers by ATI (are optimized for Doom 3) are pretty awesome.

Thief 3 and Splinter Cell 2 are the best stealth games at the moment... They are extremely good.

Watched my friend play it for awhile. I was impressed with the graphics and such but it feels more compact then the original Doom which is kind of disapointing. The multiplayer is fairly horrid, but my feelings might change if i see it played on a better pinging server. However it still wont even come close to the 1v1 etc action of such games as quake and UT. I give the game a 7/10. Half life 2 however will live up to its hype, i will put money on it. Thats if valve didnt do something to screw it up. If the game play is what Valve has promised half life will once again become a game fo the year. And since i am mainly interested in the mod aspect of it, CS: Source should be interesting if it lives up to its hype as well. Who knows. These types of games seem, as of late, to bore me since i have been playing them for 4-5 years. but we will see

Well, I better run off and download those...

As to the game, It's excellent. Graphics are unlike anything you've seen before. (Anyone that tells you the shadows are just like those in FarCry doesn't know what they're talking about.) The gameplay hasn't changed a whole lot since Quake 1, but, man, is it creepy. The thing that really gets you though is the SOUNDS... They are AMAZING. Especially at the parts with the background music kicks in, geez... I highly suggest playing the game in the dark.

I'd guess I'm about 1/4 of the way through the game, I've been playing it for about an hour and a half a night for the last 4 nights, always after it gets dark outside.

I'll give the game a 9 out of 10, because some of the "find key card and unlock door" quest are annoying.

I bet that Half-Life 2 gets a 10/10. (Just a prediction, obviously.) If only it would come out...

Thanks for the honest crit of doom 3. I knew it wouldn;t live up to its amazing hype. the physics engine is apparently meant to be amaizng for the enemies though.

I really want to know what the next warren spector title shall be since he is my fav game director. He has worked on such games like deus ex (****ing brilliant) deus ex2 and he also worked on parts of theif 3.
