It depends hugely on what you use Photoshop for, and whether you are using it professionally or not. If you are a professional photographer, artist or graphic designer then I would say that - for the good of your reputation, if for no other reason - it's probably best to invest in the most up-to-date version of whatever software you use.

If you're an amateur (like me), you probably have to consider carefully whether any of the new or improved functions in CS4 will have any positive impact on your workflow or particular area of interest. I use CS3 Standard for (mainly) editing photographs and doing a bit of photomanipulation and compositing, and from what I have seen of CS4 I don't believe it would benefit me to upgrade at this time - but every case is different, as I said above.

I think Tam is right I have tried cs4 but find alot of the upgrades I would not have any need for,try the trial version before you buy.

The part of CS4 that I tend to use most is the part which let you "vieuw" 3D models, and makes them paintable! Thats really handy when making textures and stuff... I do need to get the hang of it though.

I think that if I had to buy the new version, I wouldnt have had it. But my school pays for me, so why not That is really the only reason for switching, because it is newer... The "improvements" in CS4 arent that big compared to CS3, Is see CS4 more as an CS3.2 or something like that.

Dont know if this helps you though, as you seem to have fled to forums
