What you do to pay the bills?
I think its interesting to see the varied occupations we all endure to make money to bay the bills, survive, and buy our fun stuff. Would be cool to see what our members do for their job whether art/photo related or not.
First up... me!
I'm a graphic artist for advertising department in a small dying (oops... did I say that lol) newspaper presently... but looking to jump ship before the deck is underwater as this ship sinks. I do everything from photos, billboards, signs, logos, advertisements and complete campaigns, banners, product wraps, flyers, direct mailers, to Flash animated banners and simple web pages.
So... what's everyone else do

I am the Autocad engineer at the place I work for. We do precast cement columns, window trim, fireplaces and other decorative building elements. I have been with a few places that do similar things and so if needed I can be called upon to fill a spot.
since I have started here, I fabricated the positive pieces that we use to make molds from in order to make multiple parts.
I have made the molds.
I have made parts.
I had experience so was called upon to run the 2 axis CNC hotwire foam cutter. (we also make parts out of styrofoam and give them a stucco coating)
I was a delivery driver for all the parts we made (still do that also)
it wasn't until our autocad guy quit that I was asked how well I knew autocad.
the fact that I had a degree and knew the ins and outs of our products and the equipment that we use made me the perfect replacement.
as for what I do now: when I'm not working on a drawing for a new part, which is pretty often since we have many molds in stock, I print up previously done drawings at request and mostly surf the web. (I'm here at biorust A-LOT)
Well, that's my life story.

I work within the British Criminal Justice system. I could tell you more, but then I'd have to kill you
My work does not require any artistic abilities whatsoever. I do photography purely for pleasure.

I'm the entire website / graphic department for a string of nightclubs. LOL
Posters, banners, flyers, bounce cards (business cards for free admission to some event ), buttons (3" pinned kind), and anything else they can come up with for print, designing and maintaining 14 nightclub websites and ~30 other websites for the main companies' other business ventures.
Keeps me busy.

Sorry to say I can't work and haven't been able to since 2001. I live in pain all the time and live on morphine. Photography is a passion and I do run the local village photo club with another guy from the village. So, to say that money is very limited and any extras other than every day living mostly doesn't leave any finances for my wish of a DSLR and lenses. They are total luxuries any money we have has had to go on the house.
I learnt all my photo skills as a medical photographer in the '70's. The rest of life, well blame my last wife!
Bonuses of life after typing negative, is that I live on the foot hill of the Welsh Cambrian mountians, have no neighbours, have wild life around me and have a loving wife. Too many bonuses.

Tony... I'd have to say you are inspiring to say the least. Its good that you have been able to look past the negatives of life and find the positives in plenty. We should all try to find more positives in life I think... to keep the soul alive and awake to what we have around us

I'm a 3D modeller for a company that creates photorealistic images of products as an alternative to pack photography. I've been at the company i'm currently working for just over a year and am enjoying it so far :P
nice to see what you all do with your days

Well, im still going to school so no full time job for me
But I do have a regular job over at an energy company, if I have some spare time I spend it there making money. The salary is good, and the people are nice too....
When I work there I support the marketing and web development. Making images, or make them look better. I also made some forms for them, and some HTML pages.
I do hope to make a living out of 3D, but that might just be a dream

Right there with you synthetic, except I work for a family owned printing company. I find it terribly difficult to find extra work I don't feel like I'm get ripped off doing.
So I'm looking to jump the "design ship" except to promote myself. Some call my new site stupid; but hey, it's all about where you are trying to get in life.
If anyone feels like helping out I'd much appreciate it, so give the site a look.

Pay the bills? I stopped doing that a while ago. I spend most of my time under a blanket with my fingers in my ears going "Lalalalala..." so I can't hear anyone tell me how much debt I'm in.
