Need Suggestions for a Cd production
Hi everyone,
I've been working on a photo cd, but I need help on doing it in some way to prevent that other may copy it and distribute it illegally.
How is the best way to do it?
Thank you for any suggestions you can give me.
Margie

I hate to bring bad news, but I don't think that without the proper hardware it is possible to make a good license-restriction thing for any cd/ dvd. Have a look at this link:
Copy protection - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is a list of "protectors" at the end, but I guess you'll have to code yourself a working license-restriction thing with something like c++.
Im not completely sure what you mean to do, but if mean to make a "uncopyable" disk than I think you've a long way to go...

If it was possible to make a truly "copy-protected" CD or DVD, don't you think all the major record labels and/or movie distributors would already be doing it?

Hi,
I know what you mean.
What I have in mind is to make a Photo Movie ( I did it already) but give it a password like an encrypted code so it is only viewable and not an option to copy it like you can do to a PDF document, you can make the document and create a Password for any document in Adobe PDF software.
It is a difficult way to go, I know it, but is there a way you can copy protect it on your pc may be using the Nero?
Thank you

In a word, no.
You could encrypt it, but once someone has the decryption key/password (either because you've given it them so they can view it or because they've cracked your encryption), they'll be free to copy it as much as they like.
PS: PDF Copy-protection is crackable, too.

well.....you could check the box "read-only" but that only works for people with absolutely no idea on how PC's work. I do know that you can make a archive with winrar and protect it with an password, but that only protects the archive...
I do think you should search the answer to this question on different kind of forums, not that biorust is a bad place. I think that this is more of a computer/ technical question, and I don't think many people here are true know-how's on that area of pc's if you get what I mean...

Trust me: software "security" is like home security. It'll deter the casual or inexperienced "intruder" but if someone really wants to enter your home (or crack your software) they'll find a way, no matter how many "safeguards" you have in place.

What is going to be the end use for your photo cd?Is it going to be put in the hands of people you know or is it going somewhere to be used for something else.Who has access to it ,You see where I am going with this,to completely control digital property once it leaves your hands is extremely difficult.Basically a 50/50 porposition at best.

And if it is a photo-cd, with like a slideshow of different images than that's really hard to protect. As everybody knows where the "pntscn" button is....
still if you are showing it to friends or so, you probably don't need an advanced license thing. So as I mentioned before, have a look at some coder forums, they probably have done this before....

food for thought. with programs like winrar password encryption is possible, technically the trial version is freeware and could be included w/ your photos, but once it gets into the wrong hands it can be uploaded to megaupload or rapidshare and the password can be found all over the net. so, unfortunately there really isn't a viable way to encryt it. even cs3 and more sophisticated programs that generate hardware codes upon install can be cracked and keygens made.

Thank you for all the food of thoughts.
I made it and was looking for a way to protect it, but you're absolutely right.
I made it as a rememberance for a family day and I was going to protect it, because it has photos from people at the family day.
I asked for a small charge for it and I know there are people who may want it, without paying the small charge, you know what I mean.
Thanks for the tip, Creativestudios. I really appreciate it. I will go with that option hoping that the other people who want it respects the copyright restriction and pay the small charge.
