Exporting an image Out of Microsoft Word
How can I export a high resolution image out of Microsoft Word?
I've read some suggestions online, but still can't get any usable image out of that $%&# program. I'm using a Mac. I've asked the client repeatedly to send the image as a .jpg - just the image alone attached to an email, however, they keep sending me Word files.
I'm not even sure what they're sending is high resolution as most people don't understand what that is either.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried exporting the file as pdf from Word? Maybe that will help you in getting the image into a program you need.

I can't locate an Export option - only Save As and all options are text based.

I had this same issue and never found a resolution! In the end I simply rendered the whole image on a large monitor, screenshotted the window, and pasted it into PS. A cheat... but it was ok for scrap work!

Sorry I don't know if this will work on a Mac, but on a PC you can right-click the image in Word and select Copy from the context menu (which will copy the image to the clipboard). Open Photoshop, select File > New and then Edit > Paste to paste the image from the clipboard into the PSD.

Heeey... I was gonna say that, Tamlin. I use 'copy image' function so often lately.

i have to do this frequently at my work, and i am using a mac.
and also, the pdf option, you don't actually export, but rather select print and change the printer to adobe 7.0, 8.0 or whichever version of acrobat you have installed.

I have an Adobe Acrobat button on my toolbar that I click on to save it as a pdf. I'm using Word 2003 for PC. There's also an Adobe PDF menu on the toolbar with the option to convert the document to pdf.

firstly bin the Mac and then the client....alternatively go collect it from the client.
Explain to your client there is no way you can do this from the image they are sending you ...... mail them a test (proof) to show wat happens

to answer the "pdf" question from word.
If you have acrobat 8, (unsure about lower versions) You should get an "Adobe PDF" menu right in word that you can "convert to pdf"
Alternatively if you wanted, you could "print" the file, and when you are asked what printer you would like to use, choose the "ADOBE PDF" as your printer, it saves a pdf file instead of using your default printers, etc.
but i wouldn't bother trying to export the files, i've done the copy/save thing before and the resolution of the image is horrible. I'd recommend doing a screenshot instead
There were cases where I had to setup a word doc to print for the client, so i had to use a high resolution image and there's something that word automatically does the to the image to make it useless. I know this is off topic, but if you were to try to print an image from a word document, you will have to use something about triple of the actual size for it to work (and that's working from a 300dpi image)
anyways i know it's solved just thought I'd throw my 2cents in there for future issues.

I'm not sure what you mean by "bin". I can't collect images directly from the client as almost all my clients are several hundred miles away and waiting for a disc by snail mail takes way too long. I do explain to my clients about the resolution issue, however they are for the most part not computer savvy and really have no idea what I'm talking about. I could send them a proof, and I have, but it makes no difference. I rarely work with photographers or graphic designers but usually promotions managers and musicians that don't understand how to adjust the settings in their camera let alone the difference between 72 dpi and 300 dpi. (No insult to musicians on the board)
Thanks for the additional info about the PDF issue, Agentxi.

Yes - a good deal of data seems to be lost in the Copy/Paste process, which is not so much of a problem in images with bold, flat areas of colour. If you try it on a photo with subtle gradients, however, the results can be less than acceptable. Attached are 3 images to demonstrate this. The first (Image1.jpg) is the original photo, along with its corresponding histogram. The second (Image2.jpg) shows the result of copying out of Word and pasting into Photoshop - note the histogram shows a massive loss of data, and the gradients in the image are crude, to say the least. The third image (Image3.jpg) shows the result of Man1c M0g's Print Screen & Paste technique - much more acceptable in this case: the gradients have been preserved and the histograms are virtually identical.
Moods: I think by "bin the Mac and then the client", pink3unny is suggesting that you get rid of both your Mac and your client - hardly the most constructive suggestion (especially since this problem has nothing to do with the fact that you're using a Mac).
