The Lost Art Of Art?

Technology is growing and changing faster and faster, and no one really knows what will be the next new thing to grace our computers. What if the pencil and paper is a thing of the past like the hammer and chisel? Computers can do some amazing things to replicate them. Such is the case with this picture. (Tutorial modified from www.heathrowe.com)

I wonder will computers get to the point where they can mimmick every stroke of the pencil, will printers soon be able to print out textures? Could all of this be sooner than we think? I'm not sure, but the it's pretty interesting to talk about these things.

I used to think exactly the same things a number of years ago, but experience has taught me that there is value in a mix of both disciplines. A piece of artwork done on paper by a very skilled artist can be extremely impressive, and better than any electronic image (I have several art originals in my possession to prove it!). That said, electronic methods of art creation are valuable for those of us with less traditional skills and more imagination.

In the end, i believe that electronic art will add to the pantheon of art disciplines, rather than replace them. After all, sculpting isn't as popular as it once was, but it is still practiced very widely, and is no less impressive than it was thousands of years ago...
