I Stumbled Upon Biorust . . .

Like so many fun things on the internet, I stumbled upon Biorust. Not the Firefox "Stumbleupon" plug-in type of stumble upon. I mean the plain Google search for Photoshop content to solve a design problem stumble upon.

Anyway, I'm glad I found this meeting spot. It combines all that I'm trying to learn and do more of . . . it's hard to get on track with all of these design skills and software simply because I'm 100% self taught with almost everything I do creatively.

How many other members here are self taught? Who went to school, or learned on the job (apprentice-style) for computer based design?

As far as photography and Photoshop are concerned, I'm totally self-taught. I started out in photography about 30 years ago with a cheapo Zenit E SLR (anyone else remember those? Antique Soviet Camera: Zenit-E camera)

and then took the leap to digital a year or so ago. I'd been using Photoshop for quite a while to make CD artwork, so learning about digital photo-processing came pretty easily.

it's a mix up..

Well, let me start off with congratilating tamlin, for being on the cd of "photoshop creative". I just bought me the mag and found tamlin in the brushes ressources, cool man.

My design-career started long time ago with drawing, and mixing up art like collages and so on. I studied design for 3 years, but after then it was even more trying out finding my own style. Tutorials and experiments with photoshop taught me the most.

Nice to be back, been a long not biorusting..

Well I'm schooled (college for Journalism graphics and advertising) and self taught, but not much of an "artist." I guess I more specialize in layout and would probably make a fair creative director.

The truth is, if you are going for the self-taught approach you can still succede and do very well in design. I'd suggest picking up a few books on design theory and typography. I'm always amazed at some of the great skilled artists out there that really don't have any idea that their work could be even better by following a few design guidelines.

Welcome to the community NikonErik. The great thing is you'll find both types of designers here and lots more in your same shoes.

These *******s didn't tell you...well i would be pissed if i were you. They put it on the cd, and sell it. Makes the user feel like he gets something very exclusive (it is .. i know), maybe they should pay you for that...damn..
Well,..still congrats to you, and sorry for off-topic.

I just bought the magazine. It's kinda weird seeing my nom de plume in print and my brushes on the CD, and I agree it would have been nice to have been informed somehow - if you hadn't mentioned it, I'd never have known - but it's still very flattering.

OK, back on topic...
