Where do you get your inspiration from?

I have kind of a lack of inspiration right now and I'm just wondering where do you get your inspriation from? When you are in a block what gives you inspriation?

Life, Thats it, just look around you (I mean really look around you) there is no greater muse than whats always right in front of your face, just learn how to look from a different perspective.

It depends on your poison i guess, but I definately agree with nitewalker...

Change your perspective. Look at things in a new way. Or even look at new things...

It's hard to give suggestions without knowing your medium...\

Mike.

hmm when I get a block, depending on the project I usually do a word association with related words to the project. From there I then usually put those words into a google image search and see what the world has to offer about that subject. It may give you a different perspective on something you thought you knew about, also researching your subject usually sparks ideas find out every quirky thing about your subject something might pop out at you.

Now in a general sense for inspiration, it's like they said above observe the world around you. If you like something with a particular style take it with you, it might then give you ideas for later use. Collect things, studying good design and the whys behind it will teach you different techniques you might not know. Not copying the design mind you, but in the words of one of my teachers 'Everything has been done before, because it exists somewhere in the world, rarely is there some concept that is a new idea'

This is a quirky little blog about obsessively observing till it turns into a disease, but it's cute. .Design Disease.

There's a similar quotation that's usually attributed to Marie Antoinette:

There is nothing new except what has been forgotten.

Hi Ulrich,

I think alot of what has been said here is true.

When I find myself lacking inspiration I often take a walk outside, especially at my parents house as they live in the countryside with varied terrain all around. Its great to take my camera and just take photos of lots of stuff!

Research is another great idea, mmyrnana is spot on with it. Just research into your subject, or subject area, you'd be surprised what you find at times.

Another thing I do is just play around. Somewhere along the lines of growing up, "playing around" with art had gone for me. It wasnt until working in a school and looking at some of the kids art work that I remembered how great some of the things you create are when you just sit down with a 'blank canvas' and play, doodle, chop and just generally create.

I get my inspiration from my feelings. My inspiration really relys on my feelings..Fear..Sadness..Anger..Happy..etc. If you feel angry or happy, use your imagination and think of some things you might want to throw out onto your computer canvas on photoshop or through camera or through paper. When i do. I Feel great.

But whenever i get a block, i decide to storm out of my house and take a walk and look around me. When i look at how beautiful nature is. then my feelings feel inspiried to make something artistic. So thats another way that helps me get inspiried.

I have to agree. I'm very lucky to have lived in or traveled to some very lovely places and where I live now, Smoky Mtns, well...enough said. I just get in the car, plug in the appropriate music to my mood, grab the water bottle and camera and it seems to always work.
