Fire fox vrs IE
I like a good discussion. Tell me again why I should use ff instead of ie. I just installed ff and I gotta tell you, BOREING. The interface is nothing to get excited about (astetically speaking). So what's the big deal? What am I missing? What's the greater picture I should be looking For? I'm not trying to be argumentative, I am just courious. Also can we get spell check in here please?

Well, for a start there's a spell-checker add-on for Firefox. Add-ons are wonderful - you can get all sorts of add-ons that enhance and smoothen your browsing experience. Too many to mention here.
Boring interface, you say? Well, it doesn't have to be. There are dozens (probably hundreds) of themes available for Firefox so it's entirely up to you - you can make your interface as flashy or as streamlined as you like.
And of course, let's not forget security. Micro$oft might have improved things a bit with IE7, but compared to Firefox, IE still has more holes than grandpa's string vest.
There are probably lots more complicated technical reasons why Firefox beats IE hands down (and I'm sure someone more qualified than me will be along shortly to explain them), but the reasons I've stated above pretty much do it for me.

I have never been a fan of FireFox. I am not saying it's crap or IE is better. I am just saying that after using just about every browser made I have decided that I like IE better. Pretty much every browser made (including IE) have hundreds of add ons to do just about anything you want. I chose IE mainly because most web designers code for IE and had alot of problems using other browsers when visiting sites that I go to on a reguler basis. Alot of web designer are starting to be more browser friendly but for now I'm sticking with IE.

Amateur web designers code for specific browsers. I think you'll find that professional web designers try to make their code non browser-specific. Basically, if a site only works properly in IE, it means it was probably thrown together by some part-time code monkey who'd never heard of CSS, XHTML or W3C standards.

Here's another fan of Firefox, far better than IE. Did try Opera, but I think there was a problem with opening MS groups and converting it to IE within Opera. But, I can do this within Firefox and there are so much more addons to assist you. Easy to use than EI, have had to help none comp literates to use it. Most I have converted and they are happy with it. IE is owned by one conglomerate, where as FF has many ideas from many selections of the community. I also use Thunderbird for my emails, far more usable.
By the way to assist in spelling, I use Tinyspell. It integrates with any software and when you spell it wrong it beeps at you. It sits in your task bar and changes colour. Only problem is its American spelling, which is a nuisance, but when I spell favour correctly instead of lazily - favor (that should get them going) I correct it to proper English.

If I had that, the beeping would drive me insane!
Tony: if you're a Firefox user, select Tools > Options > Advanced. Click on the General tab and put a tick in the Check my spelling as I type box. Then go to the Firefox add-ons site and download the British English dictionary. Hey presto: no more favor, color, center or theater!

Thanks Tamlin already have that. As I don't have fancy speakers etc, only an internal speaker in the comp it doesn't bother me. But since changing the Firefox to version 2 I had forgotten to turn on the spell checker.

One big thing that I like about IE is that fact that the flash websites to not have the clear line around them until you click on it.
I like the layouts of both. lol

I have used both and there's a reason that IE7 is designed to emulate Firefox (the same way Vista was designed to compete with OS . Microsoft is taking notice that the features and add ons of these other softwares are eating away at their market share. Ask yourself why IE now has tabbed browsing... Thank you Firefox and other open source web browsers.
In a nutshell, Firefox is faster (install fasterfox and follow this link for much faster web browsing (for high speed connections only). It has a lot of very useful add-ons that are easy to find and always evolving, and it's a piece of software that improves with every edition, not just throwing out a new edition with a few bug-fixes.
Find a problem with Firefox? Bugzilla allows you to report it and rest assured, if it's a wide spread problem, Firefox will fix it. See if you can get Microsoft to deal with IE bugs as quickly...

Not even gonna touch it XI!
Other than to say that the only thing missing from Firefox is security threats, Adware, Spyware, Malicious Exploits, and a huge amount of headache.
I'll stand on the side of 20% of Billions of users who have already switched... we just know better...
Mike.
P.S. Firefox has spellcheck :P
